I have a front end issue with my 97 mkviii. Upon deacceleration, i have a pull to the right and a shimmy. Upon acceleration, it tracks fine with no issues. This is a prolem that existed prior to putting new 17" wheels and tires on the car last week. I took it in for a alignment/inspection today. The shop could find no issues with the front end and aligned the vehicle. It is about 70% better, however the problem is still pretty apparent. I purchased the car recently, so i don't know the history of part replacement, but the front shocks/air bags and sensors appear virtually new. The strut bushings and ball joints seem to be in good order. Have any of you experienced this before and i would appreciate any help towards a resolution. Thank.

Strut rod bushings. Bet they are Moogs and Moog SRBs suck.

Check your brakes. Rotor wroped problem giving you the shimming at brakeing

Nah, doubt it's a braking issue - also voting for strut rod bushings, probably the ones in the control arm.

2nd not buying Moog replacements, only use OEM Ford parts for that job.

Not Rotors

I have no issues with the pulsating upon braking-although the pulling is compounded upon braking. The pulling and shimmy occur when letting off the gas. I suppose I will look into the strut rod bushings although they appeared supple and tight.

Prolly inner tie rods too. Any clunks or creaks or squeeks?

Front End

No clunks or squeaks. I will pick up SRB's and outer tie rod ends and give it a try. Would the steering rack bring any of these issues into play?

Did you check your right caliper to make sure its not sticking or dragging?

If your bushing are blue there Moog.
I am also on the moog strut rod bushing haters club.

Unbelievable!

:eek:TOOK THE 97 MKVIII TO A MECHANIC THAT SPECIALIZES IN LINCOLNS. AFTER GETTING THE CAR ON THE LIFT, HE FOUND THE PROBLEM IN SHORT ORDER. IT APPEARS THAT TWO MECHANICS WERE INSTALLING THE FRONT AIR SHOCK ASSEMBLIES-THE RIGHT FRONT WAS INSTALLED PROPERLY, AND THE LEFT FRONT WAS INSTALLED WITH THE NUTS ON THE SHOCK TOWER THAT CAME WITH THE NEW SHOCK STILL ON THE SHOCK, AND BOLTED UP SEATING ON THESE NUTS RATHER THAN THE SHOCK TOWER BRACKETS! WOW. AFTER DEFLATING THE BAG AND REMOVING THESE NUTS AND BOLTING THE TOWER UP PROPERLY-THE SHIMMY IS GONE. ITS A COMFORT KNOWING THAT EVERYTHING UP FRONT IS NEW, YET A BIT DISCONCERNING KNOWING THAT SHADETREES HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT. BOUGHT STRUT ROD BUSHINGS FROM MAX AND PLAN TO INSTALL THEM(THE CUPPED WASHERS ARE CURRENTLY FACING THE WRONG WAY-WHAT A SURPRISE)AND ALIGN IT.

THANK FOR EVERYONES INPUT.

That is honestly the first time I ever heard of something like that.

That's crazy! It seems like you should have had some knocking and banging going on there. I've never in my life heard of that happening. Whoever did that install should have been fired. Or at least beaten with a blunt instrument.
