Ive narrowed my hesitation problem down to fuel filter or possibly clogged injector. Im going to replace the fuel filter first since theyre so cheap. Will i need a fuel line disconnect tool to get it off and do i need to trip the fuel inertia switch prior to removal? Anything else I should before tackling this? thanks
 
If you have a Gen-I, you'll need a QUALITY fuel line disconnect. Don't bother with the cheapo ones, they'll just break. Even then, it will still be a pain-in-the-ass to get off.

If you have a Gen-II, it will be much, much, much easier. A flathead screwdriver to pry-off the two white clips, and you're done.
 
I just recently changed the fuel filter on my 95, it was pretty easy. turn the air ride off, jack up the car, take the passenger tire off, remove a few of the screws/plastic tabs holding the rear portion of the inner fender on, move it forward, a small screwdriver will work for the plastis clip, I used a cheap plastic fuel/a/c removal tool for the other end, take the bolt securing the filter to the car off. That's it. Good luck!

At over 100k on my car it still had the origional fuel filter so I cut it open to see how cloged it was. NOTHING at all! still like new inside. I think the strainer in the tank stops most of the junk.
 
I have a gen II...I changed the filter on my gen I a while back with relative ease...is the fuel filter located in the same place on the gen II, in the front pass side wheel well?
 
The part to take off the fuel filter is something like $5.00. You need the 3/8" size. You'll change it once and never need to again.

I have to tell you though, don't stop at the fuel filter, I recently changed the fuel filter, as well as the fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel pump. I eliminated all of the check engine lights I was experiencing. Come to find out that the oring that sits between the tank and the sending unit did not seal properly, causing a vacuum leak, and causing the car to run lean.

Well...changed the fuel filter and, while the old one appeared to be bad, it didnt solve my hesitation problem. It does seem like its improved slightly and i have a little more power but there still moments of stuttering and my check engine light is still on. Where should i turn next?
 
oh, and I left my special lug key on the locking lug while I drove around town so its now gone forever. Can I get a new one from the dealer for $12,000?
 
For some reason I cant get and codes with Key on Engine Off, but with Key On Engine On I get IAT Sensor 1 Crcuit High Output and also Cylinder 8 misfire detected. I just changed the spark plugs and ran a bottle of seafoam as well as changing the fuel filter.

And on my trip back around the neighborhood to find the lug key, which i never found, the car started running just as bad as it did before i replaced the fuel filter. Seemed like there was a moment of progress on the firsst trip but its already back to the bad stuttering. I cant seem to get on of these cars to run right!!! This is the second one ive owned and its one thing after the other. I absolutely love the car...if I could only get it to run like it should.
 
What Gen is it?

The IAT is your intake temp sensor. Could be bad, or on its way out. Make sure it's properly plugged in first. Pull the connector off the sensor, and see if there is any oxidation on the contacts. Push come to shove, replace the sensor.

What GEN do you have? If it's a 2, check the #8 cylinder COP. Check for a cracked boot. if you dont see any cracks, then swap it out with anothe cylinder, and see if you get a misfire on the cyl. where you put the #8 boot. If its a gen 1, then you might have a coil going south.
 
fixed the IAT code, it was unplugged, Mustve forgotten to plug back in when i changed the spark plugs. However, the other code is still present and so is the stutter.
