Hey all,

I've been told / noticed that the gage in the car, once it gets to about 1/4 tank, just drops like a rock. The problem is - it seems the fuel does as well. Either that, or the gage isn't reading right...Twice the car said about 1/4 tank, drove about 10 miles, boom, down to right below the red - so much so it took about 17.1 Gallons both times.

Any suggestions on this one? Faulty fuel sending unit? How much does that run to get fixed at a dealer?

Thanks,
-Matt

lol,, noticed few weeks ago that the gage acts up,, miles to empty kinda bounces around,,it gives u a good idea of where ur at, but not perfect.

noticed also that gage will say ur low,, yet can drive few days.

i drove around with a couple bucks gas in a tank in car,, and drove it till it died,, so now i know when i am in need of gas, if i ever get that low.

ussually once the low tank warning pops i fill up,, good way to not let car get to low.

I don't know if these cars have them or not but how about the flot device in the gas tank.maybe getting stuck on something till you take a turn or some sort??

I had this same problem in my 2005 LS8 the dealer said they replaced the sending unit in one tank and some other part that controles the level from both tanks. They said the car has split tank. It was repaired under warrenty. Hope that helps

the gauge in my 2000ls seems to be right on, atleast ive taken it down to 0 miles to go and got about a mile out of it before i got scared

oush reset on the dash right next to the fuel button

oh ok cool didnt know that,,lol still learnin after 2 mnths.

but i like the warning, cause than i fill,, so it dont go to low,, seen gas light go on one time, thats cause i was testing how far i could drive,,

the after 50 mile warning drives me nuts....it never stops going off it seems like, between that and the seatbelt noise, wow
this car has too many tricks haha

Ok,

Here's the deal. Yes, it was the sending unit. Except they say that in order to replace the sending unit, the whole pump must be replaced. The pump by itself is $282, and the total would be 472. This sound about right?
