Fuel pump isssue

I have a 2001 Lincoln LS 3.9 V8. I parked it in my driveway, which is uphill 2 months ago, and when I tried to start it the it would turn over strong but not start. I replaced the fuel pump with a new motor craft pump, and it started right up. Last week I again parked the car in my uphill driveway, and now it won't start again. Once again you can't here the fuel pump turn on. Please let me know if anyone has any good ideas. Thanks!!!

Could be that you are too low on gas when you park on the hill. Maybe your Jet Pump is not working properly and thats why it doesnt want to start. IIRC I dont think I can hear my fuel pump come on unless I am closer to it.

There's at least a chance that your original faulty fuel pump damaged the fuel pump relay. Also, you might try unplugging and re-plugging the fuel pump electrical connector. It could be that it is/was an issue with the connector.

It is possible that you have a small leak (internal or external) that is bleeding down your fuel psi. Next time it happens turn your key on and off 5-8 times to build up the psi then try starting. Leave your key on for 3 or 4 seconds each time to let the fuel pump run - that is if it is actually running. Also it may have something to do with your inertia switch but not likely. That is the switch that shuts off the fuel pump when in an accident. It is located in the kick panel of the drivers side by your left foot.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have never had to reset the fuel reset switch. It has always been where it should be.

I think I have figured it out though, eventhoug I replaced a fuel pump from this same issue. I realized that the car is in the same position it was last time. Uphill and at an angle. I think whats happening is the fuel leveling switch on the drivers side is higher than the main fuel pump. I think because the gas is below a quarter tank, that the gas is all over by the main fuel pump causing the sensor to think it is out of gas. I am going to roll it down the driveway tonight after work, and see if it does. I'm thinking it will.
