Fuel Pump Replacedment

So, ive searched around and cannot find anyone that has a walk through on fuel pump replacement. I went down to one of the local shops and they are telling me its gonna cost me $800. The fuel pump cost was ~$650. This seems pretty outragous. I recall a post on here where someone said they found some replacements around a couple hundred dollars. Just curious if anyone has done this and aprox cost. Or where to pick up a reasonably priced fuel pump. I dont mind at all doing it myself. I have a lift accessable to me. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks!
Found some at jcwhitney that said they were for my model. 1995 Mark VIII.
Not sure if any of theese will be an easy replacement of the stock one.

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can do it in your driveway witha basic set of wrenches, and a jack.

I put a walbro 255lph Cobra pump in my Mark, and works great. took us a total of about 3 hours.

best to have a buddy there helpin ya out.

Its pretty straightforward, Drop the exhaust, then the tank (detatch all fuel hoses) pull old pump out, replace with new, attatch back up
 
Go here and get the 96-98 Cobra walbro fuel pump item #GSS342, and get the Kirban Fuel pressure regulator item #KIR5018. And the use this procedure to R&R your pump. There is a link there to the pix as well, and that procedure is for your 95 Mark VIII, not the second gen Mark VIII, which has a totally different type of sending unit installed in the tank.

I was going to look for Ray's info for you... just follow what he posted and you'll be fine. make sure your tank is almost empty as it's much easier to work with the tank with less gas in it.

Make sure you don't bend or pinch any of the fuel lines.

Job is easy so don't worry.

Not at first it is not, you WILL need it after a while. What I mean is is the factory fuel pressure regulator will handle the extra pressure, but after a short while (maybe a year or so) the factory diaphragm will leak causing the car to not run right, and obviously lose gas. Basically the diaphragm will rupture, most likely leavin you high and dry. I have not had that happen as of yet, and I have a 255LPH high pressure pump and the factory fuel pressure regulator....however, I have had several motors installed in the car, and with different fuel rails/pressure regulators, so I could just be very lucky.

So, you do not need it now, but I would consider purchasing one in the very near future.:D
 
I hadn't heard of the regulator failing after the 255 lph installation.

Any obvious symptoms when the regulator starts to fail?
