I know many of you use autozone for parts...

But with the problem that I ran into with my Torque Converter and Autozone I would be very cautious using Autozone again...

Being that I live in a rural community that usually over chargers for items because you have to drive anywhere to get anything..

I did some shopping on line for a torque conveter...

If you search for a TC on line at Autozone (in my case using a Lincoln Mark VIII as my car) they will give you one opption for a TC that they claim fits and is for a Mark VIII...

Well guess what it isn't!! :( and the bolt measurement is off by 3/4 of an inch..

Nice when you start putting it into your car... then have to pull the Damn thing back out...

So in my efforts to right this problem I have talked to many at Autozone's main office until they finally had a tranny guy call me.. The claims their on-line service has the wrong TC listed..

No :q:q:q:q!!!

And they can't send me the correct one as they don't have it...

Pluse they refuned my money and I have to wait 3 to 5 day to get it back into my account!

:Bang :Bang :Bang

Now here I sit with the Mark up on stands Tranny out! waiting to go in looking for a TC....

It's going to be a while until I go into an Autozone again!!!

Assume you used a card to purchase, just about any place that refunds money to a card will take 3 business days or so. Just the way they work. Autozone has given me the wrong part a few different times. Never for my mark cause I dont think ive bought a part from them for it =p. But they for sure dont always have there parts right. Lucky for me we have 3-4 autozones in town so its not hard to get the right part.

doesn't surprise me Rich. When I did the wheel bearings for Joey's caravan I couldn't find the right part from them or Pepboys! I guess the supplier that makes them screwed something up and unfortunately they supplied the part to Autozone and Pepboys (I think it was under different manufacturer names though). Regardless, I had an arguement with autozone telling them it was the wrong part and they didn't want to believe me until I brought the old part in. Most of them at the store are a bunch of idiots any way. You mainly have people in there that are looking for a job but don't know the first thing about cars. Over the weekend Joey and I went there to test an alternator (off the car). The guy had to check with the manager to see if it was "clean" enough to test on the "new" machine. Then the idiots had a hard time trying to figure out how to hook it up even though it had step by step instructions on the machine with pictures. :soapbox:

Rich,

I know what you are going through with AZ. When I graduated from college I went to work at AutoZone's Corporate HQ in Memphis as a Distribution Engineer for the Distribution Centers. Their motto was/is OKV....which is Our Kind of Vehicle. They love to get those beat up junkers that they can nickel and dime the customer to death. I'm not surprised that your torque converter did not fit. There are a LOT of parts that they carry that do not fit cars it is suppose to. However, they have one of the best warranty's in the automotive markets but it is mis-leading. Let's say you purchased a starter with a lifetime warranty. This warranty is good for as long as the original purchaser has the car. If it were to go out during the warranty AutoZone will replace it. Unfortunately, as bad as some of their parts are you may replace the starter twice if not more after installing it. You should see AZ's return hub at their distribution centers. It is HUGE! You would not believe the return parts they have.

AutoZone was set up similar to the Wal Mart marketing scheme. They buy in massive bulk at a very low price. This means they can replace that damaged starter several times before they break even. Especially when they are buying junk to begin with.

Once I left there I vowed that I would never set foot in another store. I left AZ in 1996 to work for Cummins Engine Company. I left on good terms but I know how they operate and will not shop there. I know their new CEO, Bill Rhodes, and he is a good guy but most of the other worms there can kiss my ass. I prefer to shop at Advanced Auto or Pep Boys.

Anyway, I hate to hear your problems with them. It might be better to search for another automotive parts place in the future.

i will never buy car parts from autozone. only thing they are good for is, car products ie: car care, fluids, and tools. other than that they are worthless! also sorry to hear about your ordeal.

Thanks guys.

Got a Tongue lashing from a local Tranny place. Guy with a good rep in the area.. Old guy says that's all I do is trannies why go to a parts store with idiots who don't know trannies..... My thought is this guy would be over priced as all he does it trannies... but I guess I was wrong.. Not the first time..

I'll get you the right part and I'll get it her tomorrow for you at a price lower than Autozone.

I'm getting my TC tomorrow.. :Beer

Got so many calls from AZ today oh we are sorry!! But no comp... and even no we'll get it for you there tomorrow..

I did get ah we made a mistake and a bunch of I'm sorry... If I made the mistake I know I'd be paying for it...$$$$$

Well AZ is only in emergancy for no on with me...

Eff that place.......I had a buisness account with them, but the CSR's in my area are a bunch of idiots. So I canceled it, and go to Napa from now on.
