Why does my 99 towncar say to use 91+ octane?

what are some differences between the engine in my car and the other v8's ford used in their other cars?

I don't know why and where it says that. But the 4.6 SOHC usually takes Regular. My Crown Vic takes that. Same exact engine and trans in the TC. I see no reason to use 91.

I don't know about crown vic requirements, but the town car says right on the inside of the gas door 91+

So what is the difference between the SOHC in the Crown Vic and the one in the TC?????

ok my family always buys tc n they have never said 91 all of them take regular i think its just bs

What years??? I pump gas and every new-style town car i have seen says 91+ on the inside of the gas door.....

I have a 91 town car with the 5.0 and it only takes 91+ if i put anything below that in it gets a bad miss to it

Actually the tc unlike the crownvic has knock sensors and has increased timing (more power) than the cv. Basically its tuned differently in the computer. Supposedly the 91+ was only for a few years, 98-01 I believe and the newer ones 01+ use regular again. My 98 doesn't have the calif emmissions and has a 10:1 compression vs the 9:1 so at least 91 for mine. People shouildn't comment on something that effects mpg, emmissions, power and engine life without actually knowing. And assuming its b.s. so they can feel better saving that $3 bucks a tank.

If a car that doesn't require premium needs it to not knock under normal conditions then there is something thats wrong. Usually the engine needs cleaned(internally) or possibly the cooling isn't able to cool enough and it runs hot enough to cause pre detonation. Also somethimes a cooling system just can't effecivly cool the heads well enough just by design. Something like redline watterwetter can help with this.

:I I've seen a lot of people that buy expensive cars like BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc. (all cars that just happen to require 91+ and sometimes higher) and still run it on 87 octane!!! They think they are saving money, but eventually they will pay. What's that saying??? CARELESS TODAY, CARLESS TOMORROW!

Its funny the car which gets people to work and everywhere they want is the first thing to feel the crunch. Cut out snacks, going out to eat, amount of tip, smoking. Overpriced bath and body works whatnot unnecessary home improvement replacements. Nope buy a 45k car and complain about the extra $4 bucks it costs for premium. Also most times the premium is more refined and lower in crap i.e. sulfer. So besides the higher octane so the car can not have to retard timing and be able to run like it should. You also are many times using a fuel which doesn't run as well with a leaner fuel/air mix burn as well and also wears out the cats faster. Its like on awd's or 4x4's when people need that 4wd or awd. But make sure its greased, replace the extra lubricants, no way. Just wait for something to break, replace the parts, get mad then buy another brand of car and have it happen again.

if im not mistaken, the 91 doesnt have a 5.0.

I think 90 was the rounder body style then in 91 they went to the 4.6 in the tc then 92 in the crown vics.
