Mileage will vary alot depending on driving style, road conditions etc. The LS seems far more sensitive than other cars I have owned. For example my F250 with a 460 V8 gets about 10-12mpg almost no matter what I do.
My 2004 LSV8 has gotten as low as 14mpg and as high as maybe 26.
14mpg is in short trips stop and go with some decent hills. 26 mpg is pretty much a smooth cruise at about 65mph with no traffic. The very minute I get off the freeway, you can watch that 26 go down into the dirt.
My average 30 freeway mile one way commute I get between 18 and almost 21mpg. What makes a big difference here is whether I am travelling at 80+mph just to keep up, or if I am going about 65mph on a different freeway. Also traffic makes a big difference, whether I take any surface streets, and I am pretty sure the weather makes a difference. As it gets warmer my mileage is inching down. I am wondering if it is the change to the summer fuel.
Anyway, the LS gets terrible mileage, IMHO, if you do anything more than granny driving or hit any traffic. When it is in a steady cruise it does well, but then so does a Corvette or even my tank low tech 96 Impala SS. The LS and SS get almost the same commute mileage, which was a disappointment to me.
YMMV(your mileage may vary)
