I have an '03 V6 LS. The local u-pull-it yard has a couple of '02's listed that I am going to go check out.
I need the plastic piece (cowl) that goes under the wipers as the weather stripping on mine is coming loose letting water get down onto the intake and causing a miss. I have tried to reglue it using a couple of different cements, but it keeps coming loose.

Can anybody tell me if that part is the same between the gen 2 and gen 1?

I might also try to score some headlights as mine are seriously weathered. Same question, will they interchange between gen 1 and 2?

Sorry. won't work. The gen II washer nozzles are on the cowl. The gen I nozzles are on the hood.

(A bump after one minute?)

Sorry, not a bump exactly, I forgot to subscribe for email updates, when I tried to the system made me post something.

03 is 2nd GEN parts, 02 is first GEN. Many differences.

Gen 2 headlights where Gen 1's were will leave a gap between the bumper and lights (or is that vice-versa). You can refinish the Gen 1 headlamp assemblies to look like new. Search and you will find several writeups.

I also would recommend putting 1sn gen headlights in a 2nd gen car...

other than how they fit, the 2nd gen more works as a pair, when the brights are on, the low beams also stay on, this is not the case with the 1st gen.

also, anybody that knows anything about an LS will see this as a cheap poor repair, for instance, when a 2nd gen is wrecked, a lot of time, shops will use the cheapest parts they can get (usually 1st gen) and it just looks like a wrecked car that was poorly repaired.

1st GEN, when you select high beams, the fog lights cancel out. I do believe, unless something is wrong with mine.

same on a 2nd GEN ?

Yes, you can't have the fogs and the high beams on at the same time. (On gen II, you can have the low beams and the high beams on at the same time, though.)

You actually can on the 1st GEN as well but it would require a rubber band tightly wrapped, pulling and holding the lever back.
BUT, that ain't good for it.

Wasn't aware if the fogs canceled out when selecting the high beams on 2nd GEN also.

got it, thanks. Sounds like there is not much use in me going to look at them.

Thanks for the replies.

On a slight change of topic but still Gen1 to Gen 2. Do you guys know if the unibody is the same on both vehicles.Did they change/modify the suspension or can they just swap over those components. I have a line on a 2005 LS 3.9 that might come with a salvage title. It has 35,000 miles, I checked on the vin. I t is a salvage auction so far listed price of $1,500. I have a buddy with a dealers license that can bid. It appears to have front end hit but engine compartment looks ok. Hood ,headlight bumper seemed to take the most damage Not sure I want to jump thru hoops in my state Tennessee to repair but wonder what parts can I use so maybe put a bid on it. I have a 200 LS with 145,00 miles on it. I know the engines will not swap over but not sure what else. Any ideas?

The headlights and front bumper are different but with the right parts are interchangeable. The difference in hoods is the windshield washer location.

do you know if the suspension is interchangeable?

Should be..... Lincoln didn't make any changes to the hard points, AFAIK.... I know the shocks, lower and upper control arms and stabilizer bar links are the same. Same with the "basic" stabilizer bar (the bushings were molded onto the bar; my old 2000 has the updated stabilizer [not sway] bar).

The 2nd gen LS's have variable valve timing correct? Out of curiousity has anybody ever swapped 2nd gen heads onto a 1st gen LS for a little more power (I searched found nothing) I did this before for my old v6 mustang, bumped the craptastic HP from 150 to 200 so it was a pretty worthwhile swap.

Don't think it will work. The PCM's "speak" different languages and the Gen1 PCM wouldn't know what to do with the information it gets from the (necessary) sensors.

Yeah I imagined the PCM would be a problem, wonder if you could swap PCM's? Not that I'm going to do it...I'm fine with the stock power of the car. Just wondering if some enterprising individual would go at it :)

Anything's possible, but you might as well swap cars. You'd have to change out all the electronic modules that the PCM talks to, and that's almost all of them. You'd also have to add the electronic gas pedal (gen II is throttle by wire). Some wiring harnesses would have to be changed too. Much faster, better, and cheaper to sell your LS and buy a gen II LS.

Aaaand that's probably why it hasn't been done yet

Good point my man.
