In earlier years, like the 93 I have, the grill is black. My earlier 93 had a grill that was chrome. Does anyone know the story behind this?

They all had that crappy chrome finish, so one must have been repainted.

If it's black, it's been painted. None came from the factory with paint on them. All were plated with chrome. After one has seen a lot of weather and sun, the chrome is very easy to be rubbed off, especially with something like steel wool. The one shown in my sig pic was pretty bad and not on the car anymore. Soon to be painted black and then for sale.

For sale? Mine is busted in half, don't paint it, how much do you want for it ( if it's in good condition)

Sapp, the only thing wrong with the grille is the side mounts are broke off but as you know, the bottom and top mounts are more than enough for it to mount good and tight. The chrome is not good on it but I can picture it for you tomorrow if you are interested in it.

Yes I'm interested in it, post some pics and let me know how much

KK , if I get a good deal on the solid one, just pay the shipping an you can have my busted one, I'll take a pic and have Laser post it

Sappefires bitch here.

No my hood got slammed by a Jack-ass at Jiffy Lube, and it busted

Sapp, other than where it was busted at, it looks like it was in good shape. I have to go outside in a minute and roll the trash out to the street but seriously, if Jiffy Lube did that to mine, I would be pissed. I just paid $318 for a new one to the door. I'd check into making them replace that.

Anyway, I'll grab that one out of the 94 real quick and snap a few pics of it. It's just setting inside the car but it's pitch black back there lol. Gimme a few minutes and I'll get some pics up of it.

As long as I get a good deal on a nice one, the one I have is free, just pay shipping fee

Sapp, nice Gen 1 grilles are getting rare and getting them for a good deal is almost out of the question, depending on what you call a good deal. What I have that came off the 95 ain't nice. I watched nice ones on ebay but then they would sell for $150 or more and some were well into the $200's and I decided a good deal for me would be to buy a new one that had never touched a car.

I got some pics below of what i was going to paint and I think you'll see why lol.

Again, both side mounts are broke off and also, one bottom mount was broke off. I have taken a few off so it wasn't me that broke any of that stuff and I don't think this grille was original on my car. It does mount stable and everything visible isn't broken but the chrome is about gone and this is why I was going to paint it. I was really going to experiment with it because it has no shine what so ever.

any easy ways to get the chrome off since mine is starting to pill off, I'm thinking a black grill would look nice on mine.

Just sand it down and paint it. Problem solved. Thats what I did with mine since it was chipping and it turned out great. I used Duplicolor's Trim Paint on it.
