Gen 2 motor in a Gen 1

Actually the demise was the recession, the desire for people to drive 4 bangers (this one I do not get, other than cost of gas) and the sale of the Jaguar and Land Rover line from which the AJ30 and AJ35 came from. It is a shame, ford should have used their own ford family of motors. I do not think they foresaw having to sell off the other two brands.

The (continuing) recession had NOTHING to do with the demise of the LS. It is quite complicated and dealers, advertising and lack of European sales are part of it. The LS was dead in 2004.

The DEW98 platform was a joint-venture to design and build a model with competitive comfort, handling, and performance in a somewhat wide range of the luxury market. The result was a body that worked fine for Jaguar with it's Jaguar engines, but couldn't fit the burly American 4.6 V8 through the bottom (and couldn't fit comfortably).

Ford did create a [semi]luxury sedan with a powerful Ford V8 at the same time. It was called the 02/03 Mercury Marauder. Look at how well that sold...
