You roll the engine over till there closed. I would pull all plugs and do it by hand on crank bolt.
 
I should definitely do that the last time I had it apart I didn't clean them cause I was afraid of getting all that crud in the engine
 
I could not believe the amount in port and stuck on valve stem. It blocked 50% of the port. No lie,and this was on a 64K engine.
 
Deleting the EGR helps a little in regards to buildup in the secondary ports, but the majority of the crud is due to oil/vapor from the PCV system. If you're not running a separator or catch can, I'd highly recommend it.
