Well guys I live in KY and we just got smacked by the biggest ice storm we have seen in hit past 50 years, and I survived it.:) Wheww. We just got power and water back today after a week and a half. God you dont know what you got till it aint there. I am just glad me the wifey and our 2 lil girls made it thru this one, cause no one in the town was ready for this. I have had 2 people in my town die so far and its not done yet. There are still alot of people without power.

Be thankful for what you have I sure am.

One good thing about this storm is that it brought me and my girls closer.

No we didnt have a generator for the first few days. My father is on the city council so we set up a shelter at the new city hall we built two years ago and we took care of as many people as we could. We had one 93 year old man die 2 blocks from the city hall in his closet wrapped up in blankets. Then this morning another elderly woman died because she couldnt get her meds, and her infection set in too deep.
The only thing remotely funny is that FEMA brought in a huge generator and a crane truck to put it in with, and as they were setting it off tonight the power came back on for three or four blocks around the city hall. There were so many smiling faces and people crying it was unreal. My mom called and said she felt like a kid she ran around the house turning on all her lights.LOL She said she knew it was dumb but she was so happy to have power she couldnt help herself.

Wow... that is crazy...

If I lived in a place that could happen I would install a real deal generator, and if I hadn't after that I would for sure.

Hell I live in western KY we never have anything like this. but you are right we are going to get a generator on my house my moms house. We are gonna wait for the prices to go down around here before we get them tho because of the price gouging. We have little ones but they arent enough.

I live in Nashville & we missed the worst part of that. It quit raining about 4 hours before it froze over. Luckily the sun was still out. Glad to hear that you're OK. It's amazing what ice can do & how unprepared we really are.

Be lucky you don't have Hurricanes. I went a month without power (and on my birthday, too!)

Glad you are all ok.

Yeah buddy it was bad here in northern Arkansas as well. Trees down all over the place. Power out for over a week in some areas. Several of my coworkers just got power yesterday or today. The whole area just shut down for several days. There were shelters set up and all that here too.

Glad to hear you are ok. How much solid stuff did you end up with on the ground? Our area averaged 3-4" of solid precipitation over the 3-day storm. Most of it fell as freezing rain. Some areas got sleet and snow but the freezing rain is what killed the trees & the power. I've got a couple pics from my area but it was not as bad here as it was 20 miles south and 20 miles east of me. The rural areas really got hammered.
