1st I have not followed the LS for a while, I loved them when they came out 6 years ago.

with that stated the car is a gold/ tan with 26.5k miles on it. It was from AZ so no Chicago winters untill last year. the car ran fine, ac blows cold, tires are decent.

Things it needs:
brakes and rotors
pass side window will not go up or down.
his wife backed out the garage and scraped the rear bumper bad and the door handle as well. needs a real good buffing or repaint the bumper. has typical highway road chips, scrathes on front bumper etc.. no dings or dents though.

idle was fine, no hickkups in acceleration etc..

made a deal for $8300 cash just needs TLC(buff, wax, clay bar, carpet steam cleaned) brakes, and window fixed.

carfax is clean.

should i pull the trigger? sounds like a decent deal and low milage.

what else should I look for when I go out to recheck it? how can I tell if the VC are leaking or if coil pack is going out?

If a coil goes bad, you should be able to feel it. The car will shutter with hard acceleration, at least that is what happened with me (plus the check engine light will cut on). It happened at about 67k miles, and from reading other posts - it gets most people in the 60k's range- so you might have some time before it happens to you.

I have an '00 V8 with 106k miles and it runs great.

whoops sorry. I have a 2000 w/ 106K miles. I think the price seems reasonable. The LS' havn't changed much in the six years they have been in production. Not much aftermarket available but definitely a sound investment.

should I go for it?
how much is a tranny rebuild?
and how much to fix pass window issue?
what is the max I should pay?
can the sports package struts/springs be put on cheaply?

I bought mine in March. I now have 160K on it. I love it. Still needs knuckles but it is not mandatory at this time. I paid 6995 less 2500 trade on my 96 Volvo 850 GLT. I have put about $1500 in service. A cat and some coolant issues. After replacing my overflow tank, the car has been rock solid. For that low of miles. Seems like a good deal.

it sounds like a good deal for that price and the window should be a easy fix, on pre-03 there was a problem with the window regulators that coused the same issue that you are discribing do a search on this site on window regulators you should find lots of info on that. -- but if i was u i will jump on this with such low miles you cant go wrong

Sorry, but I believe that you can do a lot better on the price for a 2000; especially with all of that damage to contend with. It sounds like they basically beat it up. Check ebay and you will see that the prices are a whole lot better for the 2000's even when they are in good condition. I would so "No" to this one if it were me.

....or just negotiate in the price of fixing the little things. You can call around and get some estimates. The aftermarket will be growing soon as the LS's become more affordable for a younger crowd that is interested in mods. It is a high performance car with very low miles. If you like the color, then what is stopping you? Plus, QuikLS just built a supercharger for a pre-03 V8, maybe within a couple of years, there will be a kit....

Don't Do It.....

The car isn't all it cracks up to be..... if u do it, you'll regret it.....

Sounds alright, maybe get it alittle cheaper. Those problems can be very expensive if you have someone do it. Nice that is has low miles and atleast it would be paid off if I read you correctly.

My car has that gold exterior, not really gold and it has tan and I love it. Not many at all around here w/ the color and it looks great on the car, atleast mine anyway :).

26k mileage is REALLY low for a 2000 and I've never heard of both brakes and rotors being shot at 26K. I assume you've verified the mileage. (I'd check for leaks around the valve cover gaskets. There has most likely been no coil damage at 26K.)

got him down to $8k now bottom dollar price. did a carfax and it is clean no issues. he has the title in hand.

I have not seen a 00 ls V8 with 26k miles for $8k in any shape.

bumper would cost $150 for a respray- or just buff it out and touch up
maybe $75 for the window issue.
$300 for brakes all around
home tuneup plugs, clean maf, new oil filter, air filter etc $50

low miles and the brakes couldnt have been bad from not being used or just left in bad conditions? it seems a lil good to be true.. i would wait another week and weight my options..

he claims his wife has a lead foot= hard braking
underneath the car is clean still have all kinds of tags on suspension components with number that are still visable. I will try to run a Oasis report on it.

how much can a trans cost if it goes out?
vc gaskets?
coil packs?

just so I know if it does go out down the road.

Ebay has transmissions for about $1500-$1800 rebuilt.
Valve cover gaskets are under $100
The COP coils are from $40-$120. Prices seems to be improving as the aftermarket makes more COP coils. This is becoming a very common ignition system.
With that year and the lack of use the rear window regulators are likely to go out sometime. They have improved replacements out.

Sounds good, if everything checks out and it runs and drive good than do it. I would take it on a nice long drive and put it in different situations from just cruising, using the cruise, hard excelleration here and there, braking. Pull into a parking lot and let it stay on and sit there and see if anything happens. Check every option on it and see if it works. I made the mistake a couple of times and did not put a couple of cars through the paces and one had over heating problems if it sat too long and the other I found a bunch of things that did not work.

bought it today for $7900 bucks, lets see how it goes down the road.

went and got an estimate for brakes from a local shop 180 for Wagner or bendix brand pads and rotors for the front. Dealer wanted 350

have to get a window regulator or motor for the front p side

and have to get bumper buffed out.

I want to do a quick tuneup on it,
what plugs should I buy and how hard to install them?

anything else I should do to the motor, I plan on a new air filter as well.

go for it

I had a 2000 LS 5 speed w 221 k's on it paid $10000 over 2 years ago and It was very solid only repairs was rad overflow tank, tune up & 4 new tires. Sold it to some 19 yr old for $9200 & bought a new house .Now I drive a 2001 mazda MPV so sad :( but i'm looking for another LS .Your k's are really low so the car should be sound but the tranny, trim ,cop's and windows are the ls's weak points so once those are in check your good to go!good luck :D

Lex not everyone want's a AUTOMATIC 2006 LS I would much rather a 2002 LS 5 speed but thats just me .I put my money into my house & it's made me enough to buy a 2007 lincoln zepher If i choose but who gives a crap.so chill its just a car and were not all loaded like you.

Umm... I'm thinking YOU need to chill. It was just a simple question. :) Anyway, I'm happy for you, your house, even that '07 MKZ you brought up. Keep livin' the dream! :D
