Got $7000, want to get into the 11's

The cobra motor seems like the best way to go, but how do you plan on dealing with the transmission? The Cobras never came with an automatic, AFAIK. I would imagine the stock Mark computer would not know what do do with forced induction, etc. Unless there is a way to reprogam it...?

Sorry, I've owned 3 VIII's, but never got into the performance side of them till now.

The mark never came with a 5-speed either. I have no check engine lights, and all of my ride, steering, cruise control, and mileage display functions work perfectly with the T-45 5-speed I have in the 94.

Now.....the 94 PCM will not work with the cobra engine, as it has COP ignition. The entire wiring harness needs swapped over. This is where the 2nd Gen comes in handy.

Yes Sir, I know the Mark VIII's have always had Slushboxes.
My question was, since Cobras never came with slushboxes, how would you go about with swapping the cobra computer in the Mark VIII since the Cobra Computer doesn't know what an Automatic transmission is?

If one were to use the Mark VIII computer on a cobra engine, I would think that the computer would have an anurysm, because it wouldn't know what to do with all that extra air it was measuring.

That's what I was wondering about.

Hrm.......Never thought about it like that. I'm swapping the T-56 in behind it. So I don't have to worry about it. I'd like to see how the auto would work with it.....not only that, but hold up. ;)

Iv'e got the wiring schematics for it all if you need it.

EDIT....You would'nt have to worry about it if you used a Gen2 for the swap. The 1st gens are where your gonna run into problems.

The Gen2 Mark VIII computer (EEC-V) will run the 03 cobra motor (EEC-V), minus the boost / blower sensors. So you use the mark 8 harness because it knows the harnes, transmission and most of the motor.

this is a quote from the ford service DVD....

Most of the Cobra engine electronic controls are similar to that of the non-supercharged 4.6L (4V) engine. These components are as follows:
• Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
• Throttle position (TP) sensor
• Idle air control (IAC) valve
• Mass air flow (MAF) sensor
• Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
• Heated oxygen sensors (HO2S)
• Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
There are also three controls that are unique to the Cobra engine. These are as follows:
• Integrated temperature and manifold absolute pressure (TMAP) sensor
• Supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid
• Supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid — actuator

it was a slam dunk for me after I saw that.

The mark 8 engine has knock sensors the 03 cobra doesn't.

You mate a different flexplate (mark has 6 bolt, cobra's have 8) to the transmission / engine combo and it will work.

The EEC-V is HIGHLY programable. There are tons of people running vortech and paxton blowers on their cars and their computers have no problem with the extra manifold preasure.

Well then, in that case, time to start looking for a Cobra motor, and then call Lentech in Canada, have them build a tranny for it.

I'd call Art Carr, but I've had problems with an Extreme AOD they've built for my Supercoupe.

Thank you.
