Got my first mark 8!

I just purchased my first mark 8 today and I have a few question for you experts out there.

The biggest issue on this car is this front head light. I know these HID's can be crazy expensive but what options do I have?

Could I go to a upull and get a housing and transfer pieces?

I figured I could find a new grill or get that one sprayed the same body color.

On a side note, has anyone else had a problem with the computer thinking the driver door is always ajar?

Spray some wd-40 in the door lock mechanism. Open/close door several times. Might take a little bit of time but it usually does the trick.

Fot the headlight just get another housing. You can either do the aftermarket hid conversion using adapters (very few left), or buy a used hid on the forums or ebay.

See if you can find a used grille in the correct color before having it painted.
 
Are the bulbs them self expensive? The inner bulb is flat out broken. Would I have any luck taking something like this from a upull it yard?
 
Used they go for 90ish last time I checked. You can buy the adapters and a hid kit and convert them for that much depending on what kit you'd want. The bulbs are often one of the first things gone if you're lucky enough to find one in a yard. Try putting up a wtb thread on here. You could also try to contact Thaywood on here as I think he's parting one out with good bulbs/housings.
 
maybe I am mistaken or I didnt mention, but I have a 98 lsc. Dont those already have HID's in them? Maybe I am just confused how this all works

Factory OEM HIDs run on like DC power and ALL new ones are AC power. They do not mix. Stock HID bulbs have not been made for years now. You can only buy OEM used bulbs now.
 
Oh right I remember reading that now. So do they make kits to allow them to run AC HID bulbs? I am learning the hard way how expensive just the head lights can be lol

I think I sold my Gen 2 OEM bulbs(2) for like 35 each. I was NOT looking to rip people off. Now I need one as a spare and know they will try and rape me in price. DOug or DLF made adapters to do what you want but he just passed away.
 
Do I just need one whole kit? or do I need one for each side? Do I need an fss joint or is that something else?

His kit is just 2 delrin adapters to mount bulbs(and ballasts) you buy into them. The joint is for steering mod and not in headlight area. LOL
 
Thats what I figured! So if I can get my hands a hold of the kit, i can get a typical HID kit and those specific bulbs will mount to those adapters? Is there any preference of HIDs around here? Is ddm tuning a good source?

Search this site for "Hid adapter" and read.
 
Depending on your budget buy what you can afford. I personally didn't have a big budget when I switched over to aftermarket HID's. Bought DLF adapters, bought $60.00 HID bulbs with ballasts & they are on my car 'till this day. Bought them on ebay. Just search "lincoln mark viii HID"
 
im running ddm tuning hids on my LS with no issues go to ddmtuning.com and get a set....they are cheap and they work great.
 
Yep snatch up a set of dlf adapters and choose an HID kit with 9006 35 watt bulbs..go with the slim balasts..makes life easier installing them. On a 2nd gen you will have to do a little splicing of the factory headlight harness since you have the oem HID which is wired directly in and not really made to un-plug.Doug (DLF) had a thread explaining exactly how his adapters work in conjunction with an aftermarket HID kit...here's the thread, read through it and it should answer all of your questions.

I guess I have one more dumb question, do I need a set of HID and adapter plates for the normal beams AND the high beams? or will a single set of HID work? This is the 2nd car Ive owned and have no experience with hids.

I really do appreciate all the feedback, this is really a great group of people.
 
just the low beams. you need one set. get it quick before they are gone.

i also run DDM Tuning HIDs. i have 3 kits in my car right now. lows, highs, and driving lights.
 
So as of now my high bulbs are broken. So I will need a DLP adapter and HID kit for the lows, and another kit and adapter for my highs?
 
The WD-40 worked for me. I had to do it 3 times because I had a brainfart. CAR HAS 2 DOORS My passenger door was the problem Good Luck with your car

NO, you need ONE set of DLF's adapters as chris mentioned. The original HID bulbs are screwed in to the back of the housing with three small screws as you'll see once you take a look back there..they are not the typical twist lock type of bulb like your standard halogen bulb..this is why you need these adapters to hold in an aftrmarket hid bulb. The high beams are normal halogen bulbs that just twist in and lock. You don't NEED to replace the high beams with aftermarket HIDs..that is just personal preference to match the color and brightness with the low beams. Depends how much you use your high beams, I for one never us them so I just left the regular halogens in there so I would to have to cram another bundle of wires and a balast behind the header panel..as well as save myself $80 for something ill never use.
