Passing on the highway today i accelerated hard, the car downshifted like its supposed to but then it hung at high rpms way too long before it shifted up. Is this normal, a sign of a transmission going bad, or something a tune could fix?
Actually Luk3, try and pay attention to what your brain is telling your foot to do.
Human nature to begin to ease up on the pedal when one hears the RPM's screaming but the shift doesn't happen just yet.
What could be happening here is, you may think your foot is planted to the floor but as you hear the engine RPM's get so high, a little fear kicks in
and without your full knowledge you might be letting off just a little, and that little is just enough for the shift not to happend just yet.
not trying to blow smoke up your 4ss here, try it out.
I've planted my foot right down to the bottom many of times, and once I felt a hesitation with the upshift.
Strange, so I tried it again and sure enough, she shifted fine, tried to reproduce that effect and what I realized
was that I was looking at the tach and started getting nervous she wasn't shifting into the next gear when I was so close to redlining it.
try sticking your foot right into the floor board and hold it there without letting up, she'll shift, drop down about 1K and keep on screaming into the next gear.
~ just an observation.
