Hard idle, shudder and check charging system error help.

That was my thinking, but needed some knowledgeable advice. I purchased from Okie
a few weeks ago his Motorcraft coils for safe keeping, but, I guess they will going in
the car....with new plugs don't worry.

Sorry IAC ??

Can the IAC be defective without throwing a code ?

Yes.

Clearly, yours is working okay most (if not all) of the time. However, it may be sticking now and then. You might try cleaning it. Usually, that doesn't do much, but if it made it better for a while, then you would know it was a problem. If you do, be sure to use throttle-body-safe cleaner.

It's certainly possible that changing out the coils and plugs won't resolve your stated problem. You may find that you also need a new IAC and/or some PCV plumbing. There are other possibilities as well. Still, starting with the COPs (coils) and plugs is the best idea.

Well, it has been a few months now. Cops and plugs were changed last November, and car runs great, however, in the last few weeks, on cold mornings, I feel the engine shudder as the idle slowly falls from 1500 to 1000. Once settled it's ok. Doesn't always do it also. On really, really cold mornings it will, or when humidity is very high (snowy day). I can start the car any other time during the day with no issues.

I will proceed with replacing IAC and PCV plumbing. My question is, and I hat asking it, how much plumbing is there to replace ? I've never found a clear engine diagram, so, it's a bit a shot in the dark for me on this one. '00 V8.
