In my '03 Ultimate I have the 1st generation Navigation radio with the rear overhead DVD setup. I have run RCA's from the DVD out's overhead to the front area so to be able to use my Ipod. It works but looks cheesy having these cables hang and drape from the DVD overhead to the side of the vehicle and then down and under the seats to the console.

It is a simple, cheap quickie way to listen to Ipod (or a Cassette player) thru the OEM sytem.
(to my knowledge PIE does not make an adaptor for 1st Gen Nav systems)

Has anybody done this on a permanent basis, ie...find and splice into the RCA outs of the DVD at the head unit.

Nicer than all the wires hanging all over the car.

Am I making any sense, I think it should work.

Right now I do the same.

I heard you can wire in an FM modulator, put it behind the dash and run wires off of it for a direct plug in.

they suck

FM modulator's suck..they have the quality of an AM radio station. If you have the Factory Nav and the rear seat entertainment package you can use the rca inputs. If you have the basic cd player then PAC makes and interface cable that will plug into the radio and allow direct input! ;)

FM modulators do suck. im actually working on taking apart my overhead dvd to splice into the rca jacks then im running them in the headliner and down the a pillar and have them come out in my ashtray. if you want i can take some pictures. also im wiring in a power inverter so i can charge it and it will come on and off with the radio so no worries about dead batteries

not

Yeah if you have a stripped down Navi with the crappy sounds system and no DVD Nav or the Rear seat Entertainment system!

) Not Compatible with FACTORY NAVIGATION Radios

3.) Not Compatible with FACTORY Satellite (Sirius) Radio, if you still want to use this interface you must disconnect it (satellite radio) in order to plug this interface in

4.) Compatible with Factory Premium Sound System (Including systems with factory Subwoofer)

5.) Fully Compatible with Factory 6-Disc Changer (This will remain unchanged and work just as it is now if your Ford is equipped with this)

6.) Not Compatible if vehicle is equipped with OEM (Factory) rear seat Entertainment (RSE) Video System.

I intend trying a bluetooth solution, mounted near the RCA jacks and hard-wired into a convenient 12v supply (assuming there's one up there somewhere). Watch this space ...
