Dammnnn you Laser!
i have been googling S4 all weekend now.
Tell me more...
Did you install the upgraded turbos? did you pullt he engine to do so.
my big concern is how easy/hard is the S4 to work on....?
Yeah, put in the larger K04 turbos and did it while the trans was out for a clutch. It was surprisingly easy to do. The computer chip was a bit harder cause you have to soldier it in.
Before I did the turbo upgrades though I just installed the APR chip and a Remus exhaust and some 18" Milie Miglia (sp?) wheels. The car was Negaro blue and to this day I think its the best looking blue I ever saw. Car was geogeous and got compliments everywhere I went. Anyway I didn't heed the warnings to get the aluminum intake pipe and Audi TT 225 bypass valves with the level of chip I used. Turns out the boost level is so high that the stock bypass valves rip apart and the rubber boot that takes the dual intercoolers pipes and "Y's" them to the throttle body also splits under heavy boost. The car will run but the computer freaks out.
What happened to me was I was showing off for two friends in the car. I was on a very curvy section of road and doing an up hill banked left turn under full power and at the ragged edge. Then on the downhill leg that led to a downhill-off camber left turn and when I let off the throttle to brake the boot split open and the computer went into freak out mode. Right before I entered the corner I saw the ESP and traction control lights turn on which means they both just shut off. I knew I was going way too fast but I was planning on the ESP helping me in that turn cause there was no run off room. So I see the warning lights come on and I say "Uh oh".... my friend in the passenger seat: "Uh-oh!? What do you mean uh-oh?" My friend in the back seat: "we gonna die we gonna die we gonna die". I knew the car couldn't rotate right without the ESP doing its brake magic so I reved it and poped the clutch out doing 80mph in 3rd gear then yanked the wheel to the left thus throwing the tail out and then counter steered doing a picture perfect 4 wheel power drift all the way through the turn. My friend in the back seat that was behind me (not wearing a seat belt) went flying into the passenger door with a solid thud and a gasp for air. I exited the corner and my friend in the passenger seat was going "Holy chit that was the coolest thing ever! Do it again!"
That was my first ever power slide. Was a blast but scared the piss out of me too.
Anywho, after that I got the aluminum boot, aluminum intake pipe and the bypass valves the Audi TT 225 used. Was great after that. Never had any breakage. I took the car to the drags every month and always launched the same way. The second the first amber went out I nail the throttle and as soon as the third amber lit up I would side step the clutch right at 5000 RPM and the car would launch like you wouldn't believe. 1.8 second 60 foot times was a breeze. Car ran 12.8 times with ease. Always wanted to try the 100 octane tune but never could get anyone to sell me any race gas.
The car is also in one of the "Option" import videos, I think its number 3 or 4, with a camera over my shoulder as the car is swinging past 160 MPH with 4 other people in it.
Yes I was a tard back then.... more so then now, and did stupid crap without thinking of others safety.
Car was a blast though and one of the best cars I ever had. The seats were perfect, the ride was wonderful, the cornering was phenomenal and it took a beating but never broke down. ... ....... for what I have in my Mark I could have had another one.... wish I would have thought of that before.
This is a Negaro Blue S4. Pics never do this color justice. When you see it it looks as if its illuminated from under the paint.
