I'm thinking it may be a cheap way to protect my car while saving for all the body and paint work to get done. I figure 4-5 coats of matte black and 2 coats of gloss shoud be presentable......

If it's eventually going to be painted I'd leave it alone. If theres a chance that it'll stay dipped if you like it then go ahead. .02

I had given this pretty serious thought, until I found that if you leave it on too long that it is near impossible to get it back off the car. Ruining the underlying paint.

Could look really cool though, in my opinion.

I just want to dip it until most likely next spring. I have heard that anything over 12-18 months does make it more difficult to remove. The big thing is I can't afford all the work i'm doing and a paint job, but I want it looking good for carlisle in June......

It doesn't ruin the paint. You gotta do atleast 4 coats if you don't wanna use your thumb the whole time to take it off..

I have a total of 5 or 6 coats so peeling shouldn't be a problem. :)

So has anyone seen a dipped mark?

No, but it is an interesting idea. I wonder if the three gallons is enough to do the whole car.

The site says 3 gallons will cover the average car, as long as you are not painting a white car black. My black over black should be fine. Especially with a couple coats of gloss on top.

Bums me out that they don't have a deep green. Dark Green is my favorite auto color but apparently no one else likes it because off the top of my head I can't even think of an in production car right now that can be bought in green.

All the plastidip guys have is a hideous florescent green that would need to be mixed with black to get somewhat close to matching my VIII's original darker green. (Jewel I think, I haven't looked at the exact color code on the pillar)

Great site and very informatible (if thats even a word). Have their own youtube channel with how-to's and show new products. They sell wheel kits, emblem kits, whole car kits, towels and misc car wash stuff for dipped items.

That is where i'll be buying from. It looks like about $400 total to do the paint job. Can't wait!

Been playing with the stuff for the past month. It's easy to get off if you put it on with a couple light coats first then a little heavier as you go along. Dipping the whole car would be fun and I may do my Cougar in the future but for now I just figured I'd murder Linky after someone killed it in the parking deck at work...

No note just a smashed fender and they manged to break all the mount points for the header panel... The good thing was they did not touch the Temple bumper so I guess it was a pickup.

Anyway, I got it fixed and figured I'd murder it. I like the way it came out and I think if you watch all the videos and learn the tricks your project should come out pretty cool too.

I added a couple coats of glossifyer when the last coat of black was still wet. I had to redo one wheel due to a wet spot I left behind when I cleaned the wheel and it really just peels off. Pretty cool stuff I have to admit.

Sweet...

Very sweet indeed. Thanks for the pics. I think i'll be doing the paint and all the trim. Your car is gorgeous.

It wasn’t Plasti Dipp but saw a Ford Fusion yesterday that was completely covered in Rhino Lining.....gross.

I like the idea of small part, but a whole car? That would be interesting.

Messed with the Cougar too...
