has anyone seen this thing(1psi)?

I just read the link for that thing. They actually claim it "can" improve 1/4 miles times by 2-3 tenths. No way.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but if at WOT our engines flow at lets say 400 cfm then anything above 400 cfm isnt going to make a difference. Changing air temp or density are something this thing isnt going to do. CFM and boost pressure are two different things and as Quik pointed out it doesnt create pressure. I'm not really following the science behind how this thing is supposed to work.

It might work on a Festiva or Geo... maybe if you got 3 it would make a slightly noticable difference on an LS? :p
 
Jesus Christ... Ive seen this posted up before I became a member about 5 times. Its not intended for a V8, I dont even think its capable of spining faster than the vacume on a 4 cylinder would make it spin anyways.

The motor is weak not strong enough to make any difference in the air getting drawn in, if this were on a Lincoln the air getting sucked in would spin the fan faster than its motor itself.

And 3 of them would actually block more air from going in and or slow it down.
 
- engines run at vacuum when at idle. perfect balance of just a bit of air, fuel and spark
- when you step on the gas you add fuel and timing to makes the engine spin faster. You also open the throttle to allow air in, as the engine spins faster you need more air. Opening the throittle body also reduces the vacuum, with more air available to the engine (remember you are not forcing more air in, just making it posible for the engine to suck more in)
- a turbo or supercharger forces more air into the intake. in to ways - squeezes the air to make it more dense and pushes more into the intake than the engine can suck up - building pressure in the intake (this is where you put your boost gauge). So I run about 4-5psi - which means I am pushing enough air into the manifold that the engine cannot suck it all out and therefore a pressure of 5psi builds in the intake. if you can't build pressure - then you really don't get the benefit of 'supercharging'.

The design of a turbo or supercharger helps push air into the intake abd keeps it from leaking back through (not just a fan).

so - IMHO - the most thing thing could do is act like a 'ram' scoop. the real question is - can this thing spin fast enough to push more air into the intake than it would draw in by itself. if not - then it could actually hurt airflow.

BTW - there are real electric supercharger - expensive and look like normal belt driven superchargers... www.boosthead.com.

I doubt it can on a V8. I think the suction from the V8 would spin the fan as fast as its gunna get without a motor capable of delivering more than the cars engine can suck in.
 
That all depends on how big the V8 is. The LS uses a VERY small 3.9L. This thing claims it can move 800cfm. Do you think the 3.9 is realy going to move 800cfm?
A SBF 5.0 can only move about 600cfm. (until you modify it :p ) Now this isnt something that im gonna waste my money to try. But the point is, as long as that fan is moving more air than the engine can pull in, it will be creating some "boost", though minimal as it may be.
