Has this exhaust been done? Please chime in

A single 18" Magnaflow with a pair of cats won't be super loud when cruising, but will still make some noise when you get into the throttle. It definitely doesn't sound like an import. My setup consists of a set of Kooks, 3" Magnaflow cats, the 18" Magnaflow with the X inside, 2.5" pipes through the fuel tank area, opening back up to 3" at the diff, with turndowns at the bumper.

Whenever I decide to redo the exhaust myself (that setup was put together at an exhaust shop), I plan on going to the spun cats, the 3" version of the 18" Magnaflow (12469), and 3" mandrel bent tubing from front to back.

BTW, I also have high flow metallic cats.

Where did you find that finned aluminum transmission pan? That's nice!

Personally, I like the sound of my H-piped, true duals with cherry bombs. It's quiet while cruising with no drone, but aggressive and menacing when at WOT. Sounds like a 60's musclecar. That's why I like it.:D

They still test for emissions on a 1990 model year vehicle out by you??

In my area its 1995 and down no emissions testing. 1996 up OBD11 is just plugged into port and read by inspection machine. That one of the big reason I went with Gen1 (minus 96)

I am just going with cobra manifolds, no cats, a single x pipe, and magnaflows out back. Should sound killer.

Same here. But I've got my '97 LSC registered in a non-OBD2 county so I don't have to worry about it anyway. $10 bucks and on my way:) Tried to get my wife to register her '96 Cobra with my LSC and the Exploder but she was in a hurry and put our home address on her registration so we had to pay $30 for an inspection last month:(

Oh yeah,

Kook's headers will make your car louder.

loud with more of a rasp to it, right dlf?

With my experience with long tubes (with cats) on three Mustangs, during normal driving, they were tamer/mellower than manifolds. Naturally, they will scream at WOT which is what I would like.

I've never had mid lengths though, but I assume it would be a similar experience with high flow cats.

Once you've uncorked these cars with a set of kooks, I highly doubt that a highflow cat is going to mellow it out at all.

And DonPfau, my car is as loud as yours but I drive it to work every day. Just let off the throttle going past cops and coast it into the driveway at night. :D

Why are you running cats then?

A few reasons:

A decade ago, when the exhaust was welded up, the car was required to pass an emissions test.

The car is still required to pass a safety test every two years, which requires that catalytic converters be in place. If/when the car is registered as a historic vehicle (it'll be eligible in 2015), that will no longer be an issue.

They quiet down the exhaust quite a bit, and they cut down on fumes.

I wish I had waited for a set of high flow cats to put on mine also. Good ones really do not hurt the performance and its the legal and proper thing to do. Good job, nice exhaust.

im impressed everytime i see DLF your attention to detail on anything is just above anything anone can do anywhere.if i get someone to do the pilot want to do a show on the right way things should be done? mom has friends on a few networks and is regularly on today in south fla with home and garden stuff. anyways , back to the exhaust, i have the kooks headers and dbl "x" with polished LMS Xpansion mufflers and love the sound.it is however LOUD. even at cruising speeds, but i love it. after looking at right on the marks switchable exhaustnit reminded me of my old 85 5.0 ragtop exhaust by MAC. headers, midpipe with pro chamber( which at that point everyone was into "h" or "x" pipes and was the first to offer an alternative), then a complete chrome tailpipe from bolts on back.it was a 3 piece set that you could put in in your driveway with no welding or serious issues. but the look of the pipe from the back tire to the end of the bumper was unique and beautiful not to mention the sound the prohamber produced since everyone used flowmasters to death which was good, but this was different.i was thinking almost the same thing with a muffler in the tranny tunnel and just pipes out back.i know the mark has bumper bumps for the exhaust but i photoshopped an altrenative that might have promise.
sorry pic is having problems will fix it.
what do you think?

I've always like the long tails concept. On these cars, however, you'll have do something similar to the Maurader exhaust. The tails tuck up halfway, only exposing the bottom part of the tails. IMO, tails shouldn't hang any lower than the rest of the car.

Yeah I agree, the tips have to be partially tucked up, otherwise it hangs too low, the long lower hanging tips look ok on the fox lx mustangs since the bottom of the rear 1/4 and bumper was much higher than the mark viii wrap around rear bumper.
