Have a chance to buy a 01 ls manual for $650. Should I buy it?

And it was one heck of a hack-job....

OK, it will "fit". It's NOT a direct fit and anyone that sacrifices the parking/emergency brake is a fool. On a hill/incline the only thing keeping (an auto trans) car from rolling is a little piece of steel. Search parking pawl. Brakes rarely fail, but when they do it's a good thing to have a back-up.

Notice that OP hasn't been on in almost 3 years.....

To be honest, I didn't read it into much depth. The only hacking I saw was removing the e-brake and laying the seat heater buttons in the ash tray.

Yes, it's stupid to not use the parking brake on hills, but I know plenty of people who never use it...

Those are bad compression numbers. It is too much between the lowest and the highest (well out of spec). If it was rebuilt, it was done incorrectly. I thought that you knew when you listed those that it meant the engine would have to be rebuilt or replaced.

I do not believe that these engines will make 240 psi anyway.

I know many such people too, but presumably they would try to use it if their brakes failed. I've never used my airbags, but I really want them to be there and functional for the very small chance that I will ever need them.

I don't use mine all the time (even with the MT) but manuals probably get more parking brake use than automatics.

I use my parking brake every time I park. I'm usually on a small incline anywhere I go. I have always been of the belief that when you park you should use it simply to keep from putting undue pressure/stress on the transmission from the vehicle moving against the pin.

I dont care what anyone says... if you dont use it, you will lose it!

That's a bold assumption. In their likely logic, why would you use a parking brake to stop your car?

that's why I like to call it the hand brake. that way it doesn't seem weird using the "parking" brake to turn!
