My mark with 237,000 miles on it has begun to show possible signs of a blown head gasket. I can smell, and see oil in the coolant, the number 2 plug keeps goin out,and ive replaced it twice in 4 months, and it ran hot on me and cut off on the way home from work the other night. It did crank and run the next day,but the overheating is still there. So,how complicated is it to change the passenger side head gasket? Will the head come off without unbolting the motor mount? And are their any other things i should look out for?

With that many miles and problems I would throw in a 500 dollar junkyard engine with 100K. But thats just me,not telling you what to do with your car. I found a 1996 89K engine in FL for 600. There on Car parts.com for even cheaper way down to 350 for a 93-94 engine.

x2 you have to have 4 hands and some special tools to keep the cams timed right. you will spend more money on the hg swap than just a motor. crazy but true

You have to have the block re-decked as well as the head ... So the motor has to come out..
Drop in a known running motor.

For the time being, go get some Head Gasket Fix by Barrs Leak

i just went through that. the motor has to come out reguardless. i found a 45000 mile motor for less than the labor for the head job. plus you dont know how much damage is done elsewhere. swap it. or build another, i also have one i got for $100 that had 100,000 miles i was going to rebuild over time.thermogasket available on the internet worked for me for almost a year before it went.

plus you will have a spare block that you can put forged internals, c heads and an inercooled kb 2.2.

Thanks everyone for the input. I didn't know,or hadn't checked to know that engines could be found that cheap. I may run some barrs leak through it. I just need it to last till tax season. I'm partial to my mark, but ill be lookin to get a mustang then. I may try to sell it as is....any takers?

bars leakseal good for radiators. if you want something that will work guaranteed, get the thermagasket. otherwise for $40 there was a head/block sealer i saw in advanced auto the other day, forget who makes it if the leak goes into the combustion chamber the cheap stuff will not work.do yourself a favor http://www.rxauto.com/
check it out.

I had a blown headgasket and I put blue devil in! No problems now. After I get out of college(and have money) Im going to rebuild this engine.

Iev never rebuilt any engine before but I really want to do it for experience and a better understanding of cars.

Any good books or websites on rebuilding these engines?

Look for the book by Sean Hyland. I think thats how you spell his name. Its the bible on these engines.

that book?

Do yourself a favor and don't forget to flush the radiator and the oil cooler when swapping the engines.
Not saying that I ever forgot to flush an oil cooler when I replaced an engine... not saying that I didn't either.

You may also want to check condition of oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, timing chains etc, as they will be sooo much easier while it is out.

not sure. but i've been wanting that book. amazon can get it to me for like $17. i'm being tempted...
my dad says sean hyland is a genius.

Unless your Daddy Warbucks not many peeps going to be getting Coyote engines.

Just give it some time, and some will start turning up in junk yards cuz they were too powerful for the owner. I'm waiting. :D

Oh they will be, but they are going to know how much there worth. None will be given away or for a super deal.
