Hey everyone, I just installed a backup camera controller that overrides the stock thx navigation when placed in reverse. I had a tough time just finding the right wire to tap off to get the signal to override the screen when in reverse (thanks to reaper76). This morning i installed the camera and used the same wire to give power to the camera and grounded it off the frame. Now when I put it in reverse nothing happens? Any ideas why? Should I be getting power somewhere else?

Yes, before I plugged in camera the screen would go black to show the video input, now the camera gets power nothing happens. Screen doesn't go black and the parking sensors don't work so I'm guessing its grounding out?

What wires are you connecting what to. Give the colors of the car's wires and what (camera power, camera ground, trigger input, so on) you are connecting them to.

You can't power the camera off the backup light wiring (the wrong side gets switched), and you can't power it from the reverse signal wire (not enough current, you'll kill the signal).

You could wire the camera so that it is powered all the time that the key is on. I don't see what that would hurt, as long as the trigger signal to switch to the camera is connected correctly.

Joe I figured it out, I ended up connecting the power cable from the camera to the signal wire to my amp, and poof works great!

Finally got around to take some pictures..

Also installed a 15watt hid kit in my reverse lights for some extra light:cool:

YIKES!!!!!! For ~$250 I'll rely on the sensors..... I'd be happy for a lock-pick so I can use the NAV while underway!

Just turn off the vss wire with a switch so the computer thinks the car is not moving, allowing you to input addresses and such while moving, then just turn it back on so the nav updates your position.

Sorry, what does that have to do with this topic?

By the sentence in bold, I thought he wanted to be able to use the nav functions while the car was moving since when you go more than 5mph, I think, the nav locks itself. Maybe I read it wrong.

It does not allow address entry while moving. The device being discussed wouldn't change that. The device being discussed allows a rear view camera to be added.

I know, I was referring to ls4me saying he would be happy to just be able to use his nav(stock) while underway, so I told him how to do that, by turning off the vss wire.

True enough.

I know about that "cheat", I just wanted a way that didn't cause an issue when/if I sell the car. Cutting that wire also shuts off the odometer.

True enough.

Yup. I took a little rabbit trail.....

Actually, it you cut the VSS wire going into the nav unit, it will not stop the odometer, speedometer, or anything else from working. The nav unit won't update position while the VSS signal is missing the speed adjusted volume feature won't work.

Nice! How do you like the output of the 15w reverse?
Ill be adding my back up camera soon after i buy this double din
