Hello ... I just signed up to LVC, however I have been on here many times to get help on my Lincoln Ls 2001. You guys have some great info on here that has helped me in the past. I bought my LS back in July of 2010 and got a great deal on it. even though it needed some work. It has the typical leaking vc gasket issue. I am slowly resolving several issues with it. I have not been able to figure out one in particular with my dash. Most of the time most of my display lights abs, traction and brake light are on. My speedometer and odometer don't not work. The odometer indicates ------. instead of mileage. I am convinced it has to be a short somewhere in the wiring harness because there are times where everything works for days when its cold or rainy. I have asked around and different people say it could be a wheel speed sensor. I don't think that is the case because there are times when the speedometer and odometer work and the lights are on and times the lights are off. Have had no luck pinpointing the short any suggestions.????

A wheel speed sensor may induce the panic seen on your dash. Although I have never heard of it messing with the odometer and speedometer, it may be the problem. Replacing speed sensors are a cheap and easy way to start.

Bad wheel speed sensors, bad ABS module, or wiring issues can and do cause the problems you describe. Any of those problems prevent the car from knowing how fast it is going, so they turn the lights on and the speedometer and odometers off. It will get very expensive just throwing parts at it. You'll need a Ford specific code scanner (at least $400) and the factory service manuals to do proper diagnosis. Otherwise, you'll have to find a good dealer.

I think I will have to at least get ford to diagnose it for me. Because im not about to pay for the scanner and at least so far I have been able to do the other repairs on my car myself. It is amazing what some places charge people for jobs that are not that hard. Anyways thanks for the input guys. I appreciate the input.
Did you ever find out what was wrong with your speedo??!! mines is doing the exact same thing for about a month now!!! i replaced the battery and im thinking about changing the alternator next

you're liable to dent the car if you start throwing parts at it, you may want to have it scanned.

ahhh, see thats what im doing wrong. DAMN..
. With as difficult as the alt. are... It prob. be worth having it checked out...
ok so i went outside this morning an went over my entire car patching anything that looked like it could have short...then somthing old me to check the fusescome to find out one was blown i changed it and BAM SHE CAME BACK TO LIFE LOL...only thing now is when i start my car the idle fluctuates alot and sometimes the battery light comes on and it dies idky...but when i got my battery tested it said it was weak while the car was running so im thinkin maybe the alternator is going out...any tips would be appreciated thanks

if you think the alt is bad, you might want to have it tested
testing the battery while the car is running does not test the battery.
