Working on our 02 Lincoln LS V6. I just finished taking the upper intake off, cleaning it, put new gaskets in, new egr vacuum soleniod, new pcv valve and elbow, installed 3 new plug connectors. Put everything back together refilled the coolant and went to crank the vehicle.

It wouldn't crank, so I went to find out if i missed something and smelt gas. Come to find out when I moved the fuel rail and injectors to the side I guess I didnt put them back right. A couple of them came off the fuel rail connector. I couldnt get them to snap back in and stay connected so for those I plugged them back into their spot then when I installed the fuel rail I lined them up with the connectors, pushed them down and screwed it in. Obviously this didnt work because gas is spraying out. I searched through the workshop manual and couldnt find any information on swaping them.

Is there a way to get these connected back without having to drain all the new coolant and takiing everything back off?

If so, how do you correctly connect the injectors to the fuel rail coupling. As I said, I tried and the connector wouldnt hold the injector.

Advice would greatly be appreciated.

I signed up for a 72 hour membership through helm. so if anyone knows where to find the instructions on there please let me know

ok I have done more research on the web and basically found that the clip needs to be pushed further down. I am going to try and discount the mounting bolts and press it back on. I will check back to see if anyone has any other suggestor and/or to update.

Kinda having hard time figuring out whats going on here. Mine went together no problem. I did have all the electrical locking clips on all the inj break so I had to saftey wire lock them on. The injs are locked into the tiny inj cage like unit. Are you saying the injs popped off from the fuel rail and you can't get ints back seated into fuel rail? Are you using lube on the inj O'rings?

I guess pictures are worth a thousand words.

The red arrow on the pictures is where the gas is spraying out of. I could not get it to snap back into that connector and hold. After researching it, I found out that I should of replaced the o-rings and used a little oil.

So basically I am wondering what to do now. Could I just unbolt the rail and try and get that one to go back in. Can it be worked on without taking the intake manifold back off? Like I said originally, I just finished putting everything back together and refilling the coolant and am hoping that i do not have to undo all of that.

The o-rings can be had from any parts store, common Fel Pro part. I'm not familiar with the V6, but I've always had to install the injectors into the rail first (sometimes it takes quite a bit of force and care!), then bolting down the rail seals the injector to the intake.
I've also always read that the injector o-ring should be lubed with gas, not oil.

Lube with gas???? I usually use lithium or similar grease???

Had this problem on neighbors 4.6. Found bad top o-ring in injector rail, had use pick to remove. New Fel-Pro O-rings come in a brown paper sealed packet containing 1 top, black 0-ring & 1 bottom, orange o-ring. The attachment of the injector to the rail can be difficult but is required before the injectors/rail are re-installed. I sprayed them good with fuel injector cleaner to make them a little slippery.

Agreed with Joe, doesn't sound like a good idea.
The problem is that if any gets into the injector you're in trouble. The manuals state to use gas. It's not as easy as a grease, but just needs some patience.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up taking the intake back off too get to the fuel injectors. There turned out to be two injectors not connected correctly to the rail. I found the o-ring from the two injectors lodged up inside the rail cap connector. I put new o-rings on and problem. solved! thanks. But I am still having the shaking issue about to create a thread to discuss.
