So im on the freeway and all of the sudden i smell gas. I pulled over and looked under my hood and sure enough. Its me. So i looked under the intake and spotted were the smell is coming from. Its looks liike its the fuel rail but its a piece missing. I need help identifying what piece is missing. Also can it be replaced or do i need a new fuel rail. Pic is below. Its a 2000 v6 3.0

I just remembered those markers from when I was a kid that smelled good. Unfortunatley, they did not taste like they smelled.

That one's easy... Duran Duran sounded terrible so they obviously wouldn't smell great either.

I was trying to upload the pics from my phone. Ha dto upload form my ccomputer. Thanks Joegr for lettingme know the pics wasnt uploaded. please let me know what ya think.

I can't really tell from the picture (I don't have a V6 handy to compare to). It doesn't look like the metal fuel rail to me. It looks more like some of the PCV plumbing, which could also cause a gasoline smell. How's it running now?

Looks like the middle of your fuel rail, not sure if there's any servicable part there.

I'm not sure about the V6 but it looks like the fuel line has separated at that joint. You will probly need a new fuel line. Thats my best guess.

I smell your picture now!

before last night it was running good. last night is when I smelled the gas and found the pic above undr the hood. Its leaking fuel from that gap there. Any idea as to how the fuel rail could break like that? is it common on the v6?

... is it common on the v6?

Not that I've heard of. If you are leaking fuel there, then it is the fuel line. I wonder if someone before you did some work and cut it instead of using the quick disconnect? (Maybe however they patched it together has come apart.)

Gas smell

From the looks of your picture the rubber line to the rail has a gap or a piece missing correct me if im wrong but it should be a snap loc connection to the rail that uses a special tool to uncuple like you need to remove the fuel filter.
Or possibaly a PVC line that has come loose its kind of hard from your picture to tell exactly which rubber line it is lol hope you find the culprit.

I have been calling around for a new fuel rail. Both lincoln and Ford dealers said the the part is obsolete and cannot be ordered. They said noone in the country has this part for my car. I was reconmended to try a junk yard. Question is do you guys have any other suggestions, because for what the junk yard wants for the rail its about the same as the dealer would charge if they had it which would have been 250.00. Also if the junk yard is my best bet then how do I check to see if the rail is a good one before buying it?
