HELP!! The dreaded misfire!

hey gray i wasnt direspecting in the least, u guys are great. the insane remark wasnt ina hurtful manner towards u . but a shocked manner from me. maybe its just the cost to me that seems a lil overkill.. a coil for me is $119. times 6 0r 8.. thats a grand. alot of ppl come into our dealership asking to replace all the coils. u know.. and ask them why and tell them its a $1000 just in parts. i jsut c it as. if it aint broke dont fix it. sorry if i offended anyone in my last post on this thread :Bang

Hey! No Problem! I hate spending money on my car just like anyone else....at least not on maintenance items. I love to spend it on mods though!

It's great having you here and hope you post more often. We need some good experts around here to help us out with our LS's.

i was just trying to look out for u guys spending too much money on waht could be easy fixes.. no harm

My thought was...the original Ford coils sucked, the 3 revisions after that sucked, so the 4th probably sucks too. I have a spare coil sitting here just in case!

I have had my car diagnosed with coil pack problems, and thanks to lsbit, I will be tackling that myself, as opposed to spending, oh I think the dealer wanted upwards of $1,700 on discount to replace all 8. hmm, I think I'll save just a bit doing it myself. Anyways. I have another problem with my car, and wanted to know if it was related at all. Whenever I am using the SST and I bring the car close to redline, twice now the car has totally shut off, and taken about 5 minutes( which on a 6 lane road in the middle of rush hour feels like 4 weeks) to turn back on. I twist the key, and no turn over, but all electronics work. And besides these two instances, there have been numerous times when instead of shutting off, it seems like the throttle releases and the revs go down even if the pedal is still depressed. When this happens and the car doesn't just shut off completely, I let off the gas, and then start accelerating at a normal rate, and everything is hunkydory. Needless to say, I rarely get a chance to really use the SST and never wring the car out on roads for fear of ruining something. Anybody hear of this before?

I haven't run into that problem with mine, but that complaint has been listed (maybe not SST) but full throttle blasts leading to the engine shutting down. Search threads on fuel pumps!!

I hope your coil replacement goes smoothly.

I hope your coil replacement goes smoothly.

Knowing me, I'll find a way to screw up the transmission changing out the coil packs. :)

And thanks for the search tip, anything I searched under came up nill.

OK... here is what is wrong with mine. He ran diagnotics on it and although the check engine light was not on (discovered because of the recall on the computer early on... its now not sensitive enough to pick up a problem) it does have a secondary ignition misfire. He also checked the injectors, air flow meter, and the intake all of which checked out fine.... whats left.... back to square one.... ignition coils. They can not determine which one it is.... so I guess I'll by 7 more (already bought one) and be done with it!!!!!!!!!!!! tired of screwing with it!!! But I at least know for sure that this is the problem......

Just because the computer says that, doesn't mean 100% that is what it is. Mine was giving a misfire error also, but it wasn't a coil, it was the injector. If they were getting an error, I am surprised it didn't point to a cylinder. It's not like I know all the OBDII codes though.

Hey, it's common enough, so I wouldn't doubt it to still be a coil issue, but it still could be something else. ...not that I want to rain on your parade.
