i just got a 97 mark8 and i was wondering if the head unit has a place fo rc cables so i can put my friends subs in my car or if i needed to upgade it, i will eventually but i was just wondering fo imediate purposes. :eek:

It's best to just upgrade all of it. Complete rewire, door speakers, rear speakers, amps and w/e subs you prefer. The stock head unit does not have RCA outputs. You can install a "Line Out Converter" but just make sure you do this before the output wire goes into the amp, not after the amp.

In other words, don't use amplified output wires for a Line Out Converter.

If a rewire is done, all the existing wire can stay but all new wire needs to be ran to each speaker inside the car and to the amp(s) which is easy to do, just time consuming.

do you know what chassis size the opening for the head unit is?
 
It would be considered a "Double Din" but some have been known to install single din units by using a double din adapter. That would be your choice on what size head unit you install.
