Hello. I just put in new Silverstar Hi beams, and the next night, i noticed my driver side HID was getting extremely weak. Maybe i bumped something on installation of the Hi beams that i'm unaware of. I had a feeling this time would come, and i'm ready to upgrade to the ones from the auction site. But which ones are the best? Are they recommended? Has anyone gotten the HID upgrade kits for the $550 off of the auction site? Are you happy with them? Or I could hunt forever and try to find a new one for $300, or buy a used one from the auction site and it might last a month before i have to buy another, and i really really don't feel like doing that. And i really don't feel like purchasing 2 new ones IF i can find them for $600. If i can spend $550 and it'll get converted to the AC headlights and only $60 a crack bulbs, improved lighting, and everything stays safe i'd much rather go that way. But before i went and blew $550 on something that i didn't know would work, i'd like to get everyone else's opinions/comments/suggestions first. Also curious if the kit comes with everything i need or if i'll need additions parts, and how hard the installation process is. Thanks, any info is GREATLY appreciated!

The auction ones offset the lamp, they are not focused correctly. The lamp must be centered.

I am happy with my aftermarket HID kit!

Which kit did you get? Do you get flashed alot on low beams? Do you now have HID hi beams as well? How much did you pay? Did you recieve them from the auction site? Thanks.

Very high output? Do you have HID high beams as well? How about getting flashed alot? Thanks!

Try SSHD's kit. He seems to have received nothing but positive reviews for it.

Is SSHD the username on the auction site? Thanks.

How important is this really?

Frankly, even if this did result in a slightly inferior light, so long as it didn't cause a visual distraction to oncoming traffic, I wouldn't care.

We're talking about Gen1 drivers here. We've all developed night vision and maybe even a sense of echo-location, necessary due to the absolutely pitiful, almost criminal, low light output of our old headlights.

from what i have seen ,the offset of the actual bulb is about 1/4 ",resulting in the light pattern being shifted (but still focused the same) by about 5
feet at 100ft distance, this can be fixed easily by those handy dandy adjustment screws used for aligning the lights.

its not a big deal, and most definately worth getting a conversion set which is so nice to have because of the available replacement bulbs when needed.

go for it!!

The bulb in not offset, the outer glass portion is, but the discharge point is dead center. The glass is offset to encompass the outer metal wire. This makes it look like its off-center. The eBay kits make the bulb off-center with the metal adapter, that is wrong.

Why should yo care. I dont if you buy these "off set" kits. But I would like to be able to see in the rain and not blind on-coming drivers.

Exactly. Those of you who have the auction site kits, is there any decrease in visibility at all? Are the lighting patters really messed up or annoying? And do other drivers flash you? I just got off the horn with ford and i can get bulbs at $259 a crack but they're back ordered and he said they could take 3-5 days to get here from Detroit, which is prolly a crock of crap and won't end up comming for like 3 weeks. But if i replace the one bulb i was hoping to replace the other one at the same time, and save my old good one as a backup. But then i'm right at the price of the auction site kit for $550 and then my luck my ballast would be bad and i'd end up having to spend more money than i would of on the auction site's in the first place! Ahh such a screwey deal. Thanks.

I wouldn't hold my breathe waiting for those bulbs in 3 days... Last I heard, the wait was months, assuming they were ever going to restock.

yes they are 50 watt hids sometimes i get flashed not all the time they are aimed perfectly normally flashed by people that are too old to be on the road they dont like it when i kick on my highs with the hid's

Inexpensive? Mabey. Cheap? I dont know about that. I chose to shim my lights to get a perfect focal point. It is not necessary, I have seen it done with no shims at all. the bulb and ballasts have worked flawless for about 10 months. IMHO If my $200 kit lasts as long as your $500 kit I got the better deal. We will have to wait and see! By the way HID tech has advanced alot since 97. The lights are more readily avalible making them less expensive!

[200 dollar kit and a 500 dollar kit there is a BIG difference in quality parts. Also i will note i bought the 50 watt hid kit not the standard 35 watt kitt. my hid kit can be completely submersed in water with no problems...i doubt the one that u have can but maybe im wrong either way these cars need some sort of better lights.

Hahaha I got a laugh outa that!!!! It just so happens I am a US Navy submariner! STS2/SS......N E way, my car is not a sub. You most likely do have a "better" kit for the money, but I like mine and it works fine! Do you have a pic of the lights installed and on at night?

not sure if its true or not,but the kits on ebay selling for as little as $78.99 claim to be 100% waterproof????

yah i have seen them everywhere sellling for that price but i dont trust them that much...not trying to hate on anyone. Some of the ballast are plastic some metal, just make sure everyone knows what they are buying and if they offer replacement parts first ...or if they have a website to offer parts.

You can get all those parts from china for like a third of the price. Same parts people in the states get, yet get shipped to america and slap their name on it. You are actually better off grabbing HID from china manurfacturers who've been making them for years opposed to buying them from a reseller who won't exist next year. =) My friend sells neons and HID kits for 150 to 200 bux and gets them for like 50 bux. I get electronics wholesaled from china, same products other companies get just without their names slapped on it. The internet is a wonderful thing.
