So my LS didn't come with the factory HID option. I'm pretty sure i now want them on my car. I have never messed with putting an HID kit into a car or anything to do with HID's in general. how easy are they to put in and any place you guys recommend ordering them from? also Im worried about the cut off line i don't want to blind people with the things are the factory head light housings ok for putting HID's in them?

everyone is going to say no dont do it unless you have the factory hid headlights but im here to tell you, aside from a rather sloppy cutoff point, they arent really aimed up to high to blind people. you won't really have to worry about that too much but it is annoyin to see the cutoff look like the hids are slantyed or sunthin around those lines. get em from xtremehids.com they have super fast shipping, friendly customer service...and a real 1 year no hassle warranty!!! lol i sound like i work for them but trust me...im just givin the people who like ddmtuning some competition.

Here we go again..

Don't do it. Why? Because there is a lot more to it than just the glare.

A HID bulb has a different hotspot, which sticks further out than the stock H11 filament bulb when inside the non-HID headlamps. Thus, the optics won't work as designed, and your beam will be scattered all over the place with hotspots. This is what causes glare and uneven lighting that is ineffective where its needed.

Sure, aiming down your lights might reduce glare, but in the end you'll end up having the same output as with the stock bulbs.

If you want to know some more in-detail info on this subject, head over to hidplanet.com/forums.

BUT, as I've mentioned in another topic if you really wanna do it, you could try something.. using high-temp paint, you could paint over the HID bulb the same way a D2R is made, and add a casper shield. This would eliminate glare, but the beam pattern would still be rather ineffective.

As for good HID retailers, go for the 35W digital DDM kit.

told u they would say go for ddm tuning :)

not saying not to go with them...just sayin i think thats like the only one they know of...

do it. you'll see better and be seen better, i'm sure that is all you're trying to do. I have Halo's in my headlights and fogs and have never even had anyone flick their highbeams at me.

Hi everyone, I have a 2005 LS V8 with non HID head lights and I picked up some HID stock Assemblies. I tried to install the but the connecter looks the same but the tabs are a lil different. do I need different connectors?

No, you just need to file down the offending tab on the connectors.

Alax7 made a post not too long ago showing which one needs filing.

My LS didn't come with HIDs from the factory, but I have had HIDs in my headlights and foglights for 4 years now with no problems at all. never had anyone flash me or anything. Get them, you won't regret it.

You may well be okay, I haven't seen your car so I can't say. However, I do believe that the theory that your okay based on no one flashing you is incorrect. I have been nearly blinded by several cars and truck with illegal HIDs. I don't flash them, because I can tell they have non-stock HIDs. I figure if I flashed them, I would be in worse shape because they would just switch to hi-beam. I only flash people that clearly have their hi-beams on. At least in that situation they can do something to help me, switch to low beams. With bad aim or illegal HIDs, they can't do anything to help me. It's not like they would turn their headlights off.

joegr you're obviously more knowledgeable that the average driver on the street. I don't think they're going to do all of that processing of information that you just did. They get blinded, their knee jerk reaction is to flash the high beams, so yeah, it is a good indication of whether it's a problem or not. It's the equivalent of shooting the finger. You don't do it because you think somebody is going to see that, come back and say "how can I make things right?" lol it's done to express your irritation at the time.

Just to add my .02 I put 4300K HIDs in my old 02 when I had it and when my wife drove it and I checked it out they looked stock to me. I didn't have any aiming or glare issues at all.
However things may be different on the Gen II LS. My current 06 has them stock and I cannot say for sure whether there would be a difference in glare and things like that with the different 03+ style headlight.

Also I would throw in that I have been nearly blinded (at the right moment as they pass) by many vehicles with stock HID, especially projectors based.

I get blinded by SUV's with prjectors, like range rovers and others. Right as they pass, they are close to eye level to me and many other cars, but they are stock. I was going to just say screw it and buy a hig kit for the lows too, but decided to go with stock hid headlights.I never put a hid kit in my lows so I can't say how they perform, but I will say that most hid kits in non hid headlights look like crap.

I knew it would come in handy. Here you go, this should help, and you have everything you need, just a very minor modification needed.

Great thanks. That what I did. Do I need to buy different bulbs or are the factory like the 6000k from DMM...

Stock hid bulbs are d2r 4300k, but you can use any temp d2r bulb. I wouldn't go past 5000k becuase then you'll start getting blue light which can't use it too see as well as white/yellow light

I found both Gen II HID housings for $225.00 a piece. Is that a good price or should I still keep looking/waiting? I can't see the pictures of them at work due to proxy filtering. The auction says no scratches, but normal road wear, so I'm a little dubious. :shifty:

Well, that's a whole lot less than the new cost.

That's a steal, depending on the condition: Make sure to request plenty of pictures, and make sure all the mounting tabs are intact.

when i aimed my non OEM HID's, i actually took out my GF's car (lowered caviler) and had her drive my car up and down the road to pass me as i drove toward her after each little adjustment therefore making sure that there was no glare coming into the drivers view and the output was still far superior to the stock bulbs

BTW: ive got the 35w DDM 4500k
i'm not tring to push the DDM, its just what i got

i say do what the :q:q:q:q you wanna do. 90% of things you can buy for you car wont work if you listen to half the people on here. if you wanna aim them in everyones eyes then go for it. its you car not ours we're not paying for it so do what you want.

but when everyone gets pissed cause they cant see remember its all your fault

I agree, projectors will blind someone easier than HIDs in a non-HID housing.

Joe: I understand what you are saying, but I usually look at the road or the line on the right side of the road. I feel lifted trucks will blind someone easier than my HIDs. You are correct though and I am by no means arguing with your intelligence because I know you are very smart and knowledgeable. Did you go to scrapin the coast this weekend?

So, according to what you're saying, projectors designed for use with HIDs (no glare above the cutoff line) will blind people more, than a non-HID housing fitted with a HID bulb (excess of glare above the cutoff line).

Don't take me wrong, but many on here seem rather uneducated in this manner.. "hey, I don't know any of the science behind it, but I see better on my street with HID bulbs in my non-HID housings, so they must be perfectly fine."

also....the lincoln ls headlamps are aimed pretty damn good from the factory if you ask me....and i have yet to find a way to aim them on a 2nd gen...but...aside from horrible beam pattern, theres not really too much blinding glare for driver's out there unless its from ur fogs but even those dont give out too much of a blinding glare from a oncoming driver's pov...just do the sh*t...

i think what most are trying to say is that some of the trucks that have projectors made for hids( like a ranger rover hse sport for example) that sit high would blind most people in a car with similar ride height like the ls or even worse some lowered cars. you also have to factor in quality of roads since some uneven roads tend to help in blinding drivers by bouncing the cars all over the place and therefore the headlamps. so even tho the projectors have perfect cut off and are aimed properly, they still might blind oncoming drivers as opposed to a car fitted with hids in a halogen housing.
