So on the highway at night I hit a peice of tire tread. By the Time I noticed it I decided it'd be safer to try to slow down than swerve at 80mph. Luckily damage was minimal and I got the tuber marks all scrubbed out. The only damag was a cracked peice on the passenger side above the fog light, and a new gap has formed between the bumper and passenger tail light. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1384115690.253307.jpg

Basically I want to know if there is a way to get rid of this gap and secure the fog light assembly as it now shakes. Also the fog light did burn out on impact so how would I go about changing? Was looking around with a flashlight and read how to change it but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Any suggestions? Should I save up for a new bumper?

Tail light eyy? I think you mean headlights. The tail lights are in the back. And fog lights are the easiest to change.

Yup....... Been there (twice), done that, have the T-shirt. New bumper cover time. If all you want to do is shore-up that area just get a small piece of metal and screw it into each side of the crack.

I'm in the same Club with you. Driving on highway back n April. Hit the New Double wide one piece truck tire. Took out the whole lower, busted Radiator, Trans Cooler, Fan. Overheated on side of road. Bent 2 front wheels and the list goes on. $3300 plus in Damage.

Got all of it fixed then 3 months later drive forward onto a huge Railroad tie and break it out again. This time just the lower bumper cracked up, new bumper time again.

Hunt the junkyards. Usually they give you the Fogs in it too. Get painted if different color.

A couple of rivets and a metal strip will fix that. Once it's fixed, you won't feel rushed to get a replacement done up, or feel like you have to jump on the first replacement you come across. A little touch-up paint on the rivets and you won't even be able to see it unless you are looking for it.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I will probably put the rivet and metal piece within a day or two and begin my search for a new bumper! I will wait until after winter to get it painted (if needed) and to put it on! Maybe it would be a good time to see if I can upgrade to an LSE bumper? Also, with the fog light, how do I disconnect it? It feels like something is going to break when I twist it, and then try to push the tab and pull out.

You folks gotta be more alert of the gators backs ... they are everywhere an will continue to be until legislations bans recaps.
Recaps come apart due to excessive heat from deflection. Under inflation? very possible but think more long the lines of "cheap alternative to expensive virgins".

Man, I somewhat know this feeling. Had a tire tread fly off of a dump truck in front of me and take off my sideview mirror earlier this year. Crazy experience... those damned recaps are dangerous. This thread helped me decide to put full coverage on my LS. First time I've bothered lol.

I had a leaf spring fly off a Wal-Mart trailer. The quality on the videos is not great, taken on my phone.

This short one shows the broken leaf spring that hit the car.

This one shows where it came from on the trailer.

It hit the HID headlight, went down the filter, then cut its way into the tire, then back out again. It tore two gashes in the tire, and knocked some chunks out of the wheel. Had I not braked hard and dodged hard to the left when I saw that thing helicoptering in, it would have passed through my parents instead of through the tire. And, had I not had full coverage the car would probably still be sitting in a lot waiting on Wal-Mart's insurance to pay the repairs.

Seems to me I came off as lucky compared to a few of you! Thanks for all the responses guys!

Speaking of bumpers ...
would a 2nd GEN front bumper cover with no side marker cutouts bolt straight onto a 1st GEN ?
