How can i get to 300HP cheaply?

ok my bad so what ur saying is to do the chip and intake and then exhaust right?

Yeah, and if you haven't already, rip out that air silencer and the air resonator from the intake path while you're at it.

You don't need the intake in the mix for a 20HP increase.

If you can't get 20HP with a chip and exhaust...

You bought the wrong chip.

I say go for gears (minimum 4.10s, even 4.30s), drop the lower spring in the 1-2 accumulator and do the J-mod. That'll make the car feel like it's gained well over 20hp, will chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift and it won't cost an arm and a leg. Sure, the car may not put down better numbers on a dyno or sound cool as if it had an exhaust, but it's a definite seat of the pants improvement.

That being said... STILL rip out that air silencer and resonator if you haven't already. It's a relatively free "upgrade" (only cost is maybe $3 for a cap to cover the hole left behind by the resonator) to your intake sound, and supposedly also adds a couple HP (although not enough to feel). In any case, your car will be breathing easier and will love you for it.

I"m not sure where to go with this thread as i've seen many many different opinions. What would you say as a final answer if the guy had a little more to spend and what would be the location of getting the best products. From being a newbie to cars, but a geek when it comes to computers, i'd have to think you might have to upgrade some components around the things in which you are upgrading. I have a 96 LSC and I've asked people, dealers, high performance shops and parts dealers and literally get thrown in circles of what to use on my car. Air intake this and exhaust that and this don't work here and look for cobra parts here, i mean bottom line, reasonable or not reasonable what and where would the parts be found to upgrade your car to a nice power car part by part and why i guess would be the final question. I and probably the original poster can't do it ourselves, but i'm sure some tricks of the trades can be accomplished through metal fabricators and welders if we knew exactly what to ask for as far as maybe getting something built. Sorry for the long post i'm just interested as well as adding some upgrades to my car. I'll worry about that when i can find some head light covers for cheap and get that out of the way since the dealer wants 829$ a cover and 600 for ballast/HID. So anything i can learn while looking for parts would help me greatly as i'd wish to get it done at the same time to save in labor. Ford parts, Ford labor. <grumbles>
Thanks for any information
