The AdvanceTrac system is an interactive yaw control
system that improves the stability of the vehicle in
extreme driving situations. It does this by comparing
the driver’s intent with the reality of the driving
experience. AdvanceTrac assists the driver in critical
situations when oversteer or understeer may send the
vehicle out of control.
AdvanceTrac enhances the traction and maneuverability
of the vehicle by managing the outputs of the
following systems:
• Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
• All-Speed Traction Control
• Yaw control stability system
The primary sensors used by AdvanceTrac are:
• Yaw rate sensor
• Lateral accelerometer
• Steering sensor
• Wheel speed sensors
• Master cylinder pressure sensors
AdvanceTrac constantly monitors vehicle motion
relative to the driver’s intended course. The driver’s
intended course is determined from steering angle
and vehicle speed. The motion of the vehicle is
inferred from a yaw rate sensor, lateral accelerometer
and wheel speed sensors. When there is a
discrepancy between the driver’s inputs and the
vehicle motion, AdvanceTrac changes the tractive
force at the individual tires to help control the vehicle.
In this way, the driver will have better control when
braking, accelerating and cornering during extreme
driving conditions. This means if LS drivers take a
turn too fast or maneuver quickly around an object in
the road, they will have the reassurance of highperformance
technology assisting in the control of
the vehicle.
Hope that helps...
