Many of us have or have had issues with burning out coils, it can create issues with the transmissions and even the throttles on the later models.
I'm trying to get Granetelli Motorsports to start making them for us, But they need convincing that we would buy enough to justify them making them at all.

So if you would like to buy HD coils to fix the problems please answer this poll.
How many of you here would like to be able to buy HD coils for our cars.

In the comments please include:
Please include your mileage when the issues started or your current mileage,
Whether you have replaced you coils yet,
And what problems failed ones have caused you (CEL, trans shifting issues, Limp home mode, etc).

This might be enough to convince these guys to make them for us.

Also let anyone not on this list (say the tbird folks) know so they can put in their requests to GMS.

Ps, I have just turned 40,000 miles and have a couple of intermittant misses causing transmission shifting issues.

Good idea.

Probably have replaced 6-7 coils over the past three years... all precipitated by hesitation, bucking, etc., and ultimately triggering the CEL. Bougth the car with 60K and it now has 114K.

I haven't had a problem yet, but would upgrade definately if they fit our car. Lets not forget the general lack of performance parts available for the car. Even if the expected gain is 5hp average, considering the parts domed to fail anyway, the upgrade is logical.

02 LSE V-8 55k

Screw performance gains... the fact that we'd have a coil that wouldn't fail every 6 months would be worth the upgrade!

At 60000 I had 2 coils go bad. Caused the CEL to come on when shifting at high revs in SST mode. Dealer replaced them under extended warranty. But if I keep this car for awhile I would rather go with HD coils when the warranty runs out.

I had one go bad on my V6 and I am replacing all 6. I am replacing them with Motocraft coils because there is no other real good option. I have 75K miles on my car, these are the first set of coils I have replaced and I deff. have shifting issues b/c of the coils.

I purchased my V8ls last summer and since then have had 2 cases of this problem, hesitation, bucking, etc. I am taking my car in the shop tomorrow morning. The only good thing for me is that I purchased an extended warranty that covers this type of problem, so hopefully this will be the last time, but I know it is not. As for purchasing the HD coils, I'd do it as long as I knew they wouldn't go bad like the current ones.

That is why we are trying to convince GMS to make them. The oem coils are barely enough for the needs of the motor, lean on them and they fail. The GMS ones are capable of sustaining higher voltages and the heat.

I would buy them if the price is right and they get rid of this problem. I bought my LS used w/ about 65,000 miles and not has about 93,000. From what you guys say your cars did, I am sure I have a coil or two going bad.

Do the '03+ have different/better coils than the '00-02?

I had Coil #2 go out,, but plan to do them all since it will be all opened up. question is should i go with Motorcraft ones from Rockauto.com?

There is a revised coil, but I don't know when it was revised.

At 67,000 miles I've got a coil #1 misfire code and a slight leak in the valve cover, but no noticable performance issues, yet. If a reliable replacement was available I would change out all eight coils.

Okay, I'll give you that this seller is pricing them at roughly what they should cost, but they are still the OEM Junk coils.

IIRC, the OEM design is a 20,000 KV coil, which is marginal at best in these applications. Kind of like the original Ford Epoxy block coils for early DIS. To call them "barely adequate" was extreme charity. Now just about every aftermarket company that makes coils is making a 60-65,000 KV coil for the Block DIS's.
Now they are starting to make the COP's for Mustangs, so why not get some made for the LS's.

The last time I bought coils from Ford, they were up to the third revision and over $100 each. I'm not sure if they are better, but if you're buying the $30 coils like I did from a dealership in Oklahoma, they will fail again... I've just replaced two of these that were new last year. These are the same defective parts that came on the car or were already changed by the dealership once before someone else bought the car. So why would you replace a defective part with another defective part. If I have to pay $100 for a Ford coil that may be better than the last two revisions... I'd rather it go to a HD coil with the potention for a better burn, more HP, and general lack of trouble.

Only way to beat the problem is to get something aftermarket made... here's your chance.

Can anyone post a picture of a V6 coil... from several angles... and possibly next to a ruler for scale? I'm interested to see the differences between the V6 and the V8 coils.

Just change them all and be done with it !

I did that at 100,000 miles and all is well again!
