How Much Better is the Mark VIII than the LS

As a MARK VIII owner ( 97 LSC the "BEST" MARK VIII, For that matter, The best LINCOLN, As a matter of fact, The best AMERICAN Luxury car ever made, NO! The "BEST" Luxury car in the world.) I'm not bias!.:D

Where are you getting that? The Mark VIII is lighter the Gen2 LS, depending on year; unless you are talking about the V6 LS's, which would be comparing apples and oranges.

Most all years of Mark VIII's and LS8's are so close in weight as to not really make much of a difference...

1996 Mark: 3767
1998 Mark: 3765

2005 LS8: 3772

I believe the average LS to be lighter than the average VIII. But throw weight aside the LS 5 speed still made up for its less hp the first few years and the Gen2s with 280hp have no problem with VIIIs.

To get real technical the Gen2 MarkVIII loss some go. I've said it before and will say it now.

Gen1 MarkVIII vs. Gen2 LS....very even
Gen2 MarkVIII vs. Gen1 LS....very even

Stock for stock.

Flip flop it and its only .02-.04 advantage, easily within many factors to make one
take the other.

I have both. My LS kills my MarkVIII....for now.

You know From the Times I have seen for Gen I LS, its usually 15.3 and above which a stock Gen II Mark VIII can beat. (excluding yours because it was a factory freak)

I don't want to ruffle feathers but comparing the LS to the Mark is almost like comparing apples to oranges.

I think the Mark of course walks all over the LS as far as power but I really don't see it being as comforting as the LS. Mark owners are die hard fans and I'm sure will disagree but I just really don't see as much luxury in the Mark.

I also know of a few other cars that were cutting edge at that time.

Apples and Oranges I agree.. It all depends on what you like better. Both have their issues and both have their perks..

Best for me it the Price of a Mark VIII... Thank god they don't have resale value... allows me to have 3 of them...

Nope no bias there....

I would say they both sereved their purposes. The mark was replaced by the Ls. Is that safe to say? Just as the Ls was replaced by the Zephyr And now known as the MKZ. Each car moved ahead with technology and other refinements. And after all is said and done, they are Lincolns. They were not inteneded to be sports cars in the sense of Corvettes and Mustangs. You buy the car you like or love, or the one you can afford. Either way most guys are gonna be Die hard fans of their car.

ummm no sir thats not safe to say.

the Mark was never meant to compete where the LS was. The LS was ford trying to get into the BMW Audi world. The Zepher and MKZ are just small lincolns not a replacement for the LS. The LS's replacement arrives in 2009 in the MKS. The Mark was supposed to be a gentlemans muscle car. The Luxury Sport was intended to be a Sport Sedan. I agree they are all Lincolns and each have their own following (mark has a huge cult following) and are great cars. But one didnt replace the other and to date a replacement hasnt come out for either.

Actually the MKS replaces the Conti. Thats the word from Lincoln. And if you follow the years of the cars, when one production model ends you see the new one begin. And true that the Ls was aimed at the BMW, It also replaced the Mark. Like you said a more redefined sports car. But the Zephyr was the Ls's replacement. And the Ls is not that big of a car. Have you ever been in or driven a Zephyr or the MKz? They are just a little more roomier than the Ls, not much but a little. My 2006 Galant had more room than my Ls. And it outperformed my LS in every aspect, except comfort. It even out handled the Ls hands down.

What do you mean thats a good one? I have a v6 Ls and had a Ralliart Galant. Have you ever been in one or even know anything about the car. Seeing that you don't and that I have owned both and right now I have the Ls. I think I would know the difference. The Galant 6 second 0 to 60. 14.1 in the quarter. A 258 hp motor with 258 ft/lb tourqe. I believe those numbers match up with the V8 Ls. My V6 Ls is a dog compared to the Ralliart I lost. Go and test drive one instead of LMAO, and you will be surprised. Unlike you I used my opinions from both cars that I have owned. You just heard Galant and assumed. What do you think about the Volvo S60 R?

You said out performed in every aspect. That is extreme and at least for me funny. No I haven't driven one nor care too, that would be a step down IMO.

Volvos are definately getting alot better looking these days. Saw a 2 door the other day that was definately sharp.

Yes I said in every aspect except for comfort. And I was comparing it to a V6 Ls. And not really a step down at all. And as for the volvo s60 R thats one sleeper right there. AWD 300 hp and everyone thinks its just a soccer moms volvo. 5.5 0-60 and a 14 sec quarter mile. Out of a 2.5 liter motor.

Your opinion, its your right to have it. I would imagine a v-6 LS to feel underpowered, but never drove one.

They are Turboed aren't they?

I'm pretty close to 5.5 and 14.0 with my LS.

Yes they are turboed 5 cyl. And I was comparing those cars to my V6 Ls, Not the V8 Ls. But they both are right there with the V8. But for everyday commuter cars they have plenty of performance.

The LS is better because I own one. Case closed, thread locked.

This thread is tEh funnay.

Didn't you guys learn that you can't compare Apples to Oranges?

Don't tell anyone, but the board was getting really slow.... I just wanted to get the thread counts up...

The LS is far better than the Mark VIII.

Besides, we can still get HID bulbs.

:p

Sometimes having something cutting edge and innovative comes at the cost of convenience... and cost.

But you should be able to get lots of your parts long into the future. Can't you just borrow body panels from the Mitsubishi Gallant?
