Hydraulic Fan Pump HELP!

Hi everyone. I have a 2001 Lincoln LS V8. I just did the valve cover gaskets and 2 weeks later my secondary timing chain tensioner went out . I got that fixed but now when I went to put it back together I can not get the fan to work. Is it suppose to turn on (Low) when the car gets turned on automaticly or does it turn on at a certain temperature? Also do I have to bleed it out and if so how and where? I put in a new pump thinking that was the problem but same thing. Any idea anyone, I absolutely love this car and need your guy's help!

It turns on at a certain temperature. To test it turn your AC on to full blast.

also to let you guys know I have already bled the coolant.. i just cant figure out how to bleed the hydraulic pump....

here is what i do...

You basically 'suck' any air out of the system by applying vacuum to the reservoir lidp. I used my brake bleeder vacuum pump and wrapped enough tape around the hose to create a plug that can seal the cap lid hole.
- Fill the hydraulic cooling fan reservoir to the MAX line
- Apply 20-25in-hg (-10psi) vacuum for two to three minutes.
- Close the reservoir cap and start the engine - turn the A/C on MAX. This will run the hydraulic fan. If a whining noise is heard, repeat the procedure.

hi ive tried the to vaccum up the resouvior container and i have a good idea i did it correctly because the fluids rose to the top...but it still does not turn on and whines when i rev up the engine..any other ideas...i put in a new pump by the way...Thanks everyone....

good news..I took apart the motor on the fan assembly and everything seemed ok. the only difference i made was dip all the parts inside with hydaulic fluids and and put it back together and it worked. I thought it would get lubed up by itself when the fluids hit it but i was wrong! any ways fan works great now the only thing is i got this whining noise when i turn the car on you can clearly hear it... but when it warms up it does come on at idle but when i press on the pedel you can hear it... any ideas...you think there might be air the the pump..?

yep - the whine is a sign of air in the system.
