As a self professed craigslist addict (i should be seeking therapy for it!), I rarely every look at local trader/swap mags anymore. For some strange reason I felt The urge to buy one a few weeks ago. After looking at it for about 5 minutes, I spot a 97 mark viii lsc for $1000 with bad air suspension. I almost broke my phone in the rush to dial the owner. The lady, about 60 or so, gave me the life story of the mark. After accounting for all 180k she tells me someone is coming to get it in 2 hours. I left her my number and asked that she call if ANYTHING changes. An hour later her husband calls and tells me to come get it if I want it. A few hours later I make the bumpy ride home in my new death sled. Five miles from home the trans quit pulling and started to hemorrhage trans fluid. Well after an intersting towing episode its at a buddy's garage. I couldn't risk letting it be another donor for somebody's hotrod. It is a 97 lsc, 2 previous owners, 180k, cold ac, a dead compressor for suspension, mint chrome 10 spokes. working blend door and one hell of an exhaust leak!lol! Let me know what you think about it.

Sweet! Good to see you saved it..any rust on it being from ohio? (Looking at your location)

I love it. It's beautiful, even slammed. Show it to us. Black interior?
And did ya give a offer on the gen 1 sitting next to it?

It's a project car for sure. From the sounds of it, perhaps the front pump seal is toast on it and likely took the transmission out with it. Sounds like you will need new airride (or coil conversion) a tranny and some new exhaust on it. I don't know what you can get transmissions for in your area, but I am rocking a salvage yard transmission in my 98 LSC that came out of a 99 Vic with 70K miles on the tranny. I got it for $150 with core. Maybe you'll be lucky to score the same deal and have a buddy help you put it in. With that mileage, I would guess the compressor is toast because the bags have been leaking for some time and overloaded the duty of the compressor. Hope for the best there, but expect to replace it all. The exhaust leak could simply be a rotted section of exhaust. Worst case scenario, it has an exhaust manifold leak.

Well thanks for the support, its defintely going to be a project. The interior is not black sadly enough, it is light gray and could use a new drivers seat skin. The body is straight with no visible rust(haven't seen complete undercarriage yet), car is from tennessee (cleveland), thank god its not an ohio car, been there done that. As luck would have it I have been saving a 43k 98 lsc tranny for a rainy dayfor some while, so that should fix the motivation issue. The car has new brakes front and rear in the last 6 mo(pads and rotors), a fresh tune-up at that time, and the previous owner had the car since it had 20k and was a year old. So basically it was a 1 owner. As for the 95 lsc parked next to it, I sold that one to a buddy a few years ago and he has left it sitting for the last 5 years in his yard. It is an ivory with cream interior(white) with 78k miles. The airride on it is toast, it does have some rust issues although minor, but after sitting 5 years it still starts and runs decent. There is also a 94 dark blue base lurking around the corner of the building that had a minor incident with loosing its hood at 120mph. When I find out how to make my pics smaller I will post more.

Nice find, did you pay $1000 for it? I need to find one worth fixing up I got all the good parts just sitting in my garage. But then I would have to convince myself to sell it...that might be a problem. In 10 years I have only been able to sell one out of seven marks.... I need help...

Keep us updated with lots of pictures so I have something to look at, at work.

Weeelllllll, I now remember why the h*ll I moved my big *ss to florida. It is cold as a mother in tennessee in the winter!:Bang:Bang, Its not even "winter" yet and its in the low thirties at night. Somehow I managed to get an extra airride comp installed on the car last night. Downside is I left the keys to the mark at home on the dresser like 30 miles away. Soon I will find out the true condition of the airride. The comp looked like it had been soaked internally when I took it apart! I be glad when buddy gets done building his custom bobber in his garage, lol:D:D:biggrin:
