Well it finally happened to me. I got pulled over for my window tint.
The cop was across the street and was turning right when all of a sudden he flipped a u-turn and told me to turn right and pull over instead of turning left. He walked up and told me my tint was illegal in California...Just the front. I was in my business attire and had all my paper work right there for him. I have a neveda license So he started asking me questions about that. I informed him that I live in Vegas and was here on business and this is the vehicle I use when here on business. He went back to his car for like a minute and then came up and just gave me a warning. I bet $100 if I hadn't been dressed nice and had all my papers in order he would've given me a fix-it ticket and a harder time. Maybe just my opinion..... He didn't even notice the blacked out marker lights or the fact my corner bulb was burned out( I'm fixing it today) and he didn't say anything about the angeleyes either.

i got pulled over for window tint last summer. well...technically reckless driving. i was racing a dodge stratus r/t on the highway on the way to school. 10 min and about 5 miles later as i was hopping out of my car in the school parking lot about 3 unmarked squads surrounded me like some sort of felony stop. i didnt know what the hell was going on. turns out someone followed me to school and called the cops. they couldnt do anything and ended up giving me a tint ticket out of pure frustration. they labeled my car as a black continental. i drive a green LS. needless to say, the ticket dissappeared. lol! man i love these cars!

a random person followed u and called the cops? wtf..

thats a slap to the face..

yeah angeleyes are legal...but if he wanted to be an a$$ he could've given me a hard time. As far as I know you just can't have any forward luminated blue or red bulbs...those colors are for emergency vehicles only.

My friend had an 03 cobra comign across the mobile bayway at about 120 at 2 in the morning and he passed the only car on there. They called the cops on him. He was sitting in waffle house eating and the cop comes in and gives him a wreckless driving and a DUI.

Don't always count on your business attire man. I was caught speeding a few weeks ago just after getting on the road from where I work. 76 in a 55. My wife and I both were in business attire, I pulled over as soon as I saw him pulling out, and had my papers handed to him before he could even ask for them. He never flipped on the blues until he stopped in behind my car. Still costed me $236.00. That's the last time I try to be nice. Sounds like it worked out good for you though.

Should of got him for reckless eating, too! LOL, just kidding, I love Waffle House restaurants (but not so much the food). ;)

What % is your tint? It doesn't look that dark in your pics. I've got a feeling that I shouldn't have let the tint guy talk me into 30%. I originally wanted 50%.

It's not that dark but this morning was overcast and looking acroos the road at me it probably looked darker than it really is and I have the six inch limo tint on the front so that is also why I may have caught his eye. I'm not worried about it, what are the chances of him seeing me again neways here is SD. I am pretty sure he was an SD cop over here in Chula Vista, Not sure what kinda jurisdiction (sp) he would have had anyways.

Minding your own business is as much a part of history as all our other privacy rights - one reason I don't watch much TV is all the shows glorify the police-nation and nanny government.... I'm old enough to remember when a police officer couldn't search you, or your car, just because he was giving you a ticket, and required probably cause to stop you or breathalyse.

We've lost most of our rights in this country - and yet for some reason we act like we have any Freedom to spread around the world? Give me a break.

Blame the Insurance companies - they've funded the "Institute for Highway Safety" and MADD for years to lobby states to pass ever-more restrictive laws aimed at reducing their costs by ruining peoples lives and freedoms.

Anyway - I said my piece, sorry for the tirade but people who don't mind their own business should be staked out in public squares and vilified as the Judas Goats they are.

damn my best friend is a cop here in NYC and he tells me that here if the officer does not see you do the crime then he cannot issue the driver a summons especially if he finds him eating in a waffle house and not actually driving, the only thing that can be done is the person that called can file a civil complaint and the officer can issue the driver a warning, and in order to get a tkt here in NYC for TINTS the officer has to test the tint with a ultraviolate meter that test the percentage of your tint, if the tint is over 30% then its elegal if not it wont hold in court......I LOVE NYC WE GET AWAY WITH SOOO MUCH BULL$HIT.

Some cops take their authority too far...One of my friends got pulled over for goin 69 in a 55 and he got a 500 dollar ticket...for alot of different things, speeding, tints, oh and his radar detector being in the way of his view. There was some other things, but they were bogus.

Sounds like he was doing his job to me. Fourteen over is going to get you a ticket almost anywhere. The cop doesn't set the fine, the courts do.

I got pulled over yesterday for some bullsh!t. I was on the freeway following this volvo almost my entire drive. We were probably driving around 60 in this 50 zone. I noticed the CHP up ahead on the shoulder and so did the volvo and we both hit the brakes and got down to probably about 55 MPH by the time we passed the CHP. I looked in my mirror and didn't see him pull onto the freeway. I looked one last time and I saw him put his blinker on and get onto the road. The volvo then switched to the right lane after passing a car. I was gonna switch also, but was not able to because they were driving too slow and I wasn't about to speed up to get into the slow lane. Within a couple of seconds, I check my mirror again and he's on my a$$. I knew right then he was gonna pull me over. But I guess it took him a while to run my plates because I had time to finally switch into the right lane and by the time he pulled me over, I was in a 65 MPH zone. He lit me up and I pulled over. He told me that he pulled me over for numerous reasons: the main reason he said was he got me on radar at 65 when I passed him (now that's bullsh!t), next he told me that I had my lights painted black, my blinkers were white, my windows were tinted, then he walked to the front of the car and told me that I had no front plate. I was so pissed. Not so much about all of the things he named but the fact that he said I was going 65 when I passed him. If I was going 65, why didn't he get the volvo that I was following? He told me that I came up quick on the volvo. That just got me more pissed because he was completely lying. After our little discussion, he asked for all my stuff and when he looked at it, he didn't believe that it was my car because my address on my insurance card is different from the one on my license. He kept asking me the addresses on both items then ask me a question, then asked me again what the addresses were. He was one of the cockiest CHP I have even ran into. So I'll have fun fighting this one.........

Well that just sucks. I know the cop was doing his job with the 14 over, but I didn't really see the point of the other things he wrote him up for. He also wrote him up for a cracked tail light...I didn't think they could do that.

You wouldn't have happened to be in IMPERIAL BEACH??? That's where I got my tint ticket, those cops are :q:q:q:q:q:q:qs. The cop told me the same thing, that having just a little bit of tint was ILLEGAL.

The thread starts off good then goes downhill with all the complaining. If you get cited for something then there is a law or statute or something that allows it. People act as if cops just think really hard and CREATE some reason. If the reason you get cited seems wrong, contact your gov., congressman, mayor...etc. Dont get pissed at cops, they didnt create the law. And yes also thank the auto insurance companies. They are a HUGE lobbyist for traffic laws. Also, in case you havent been informed, tuner cars...meaning mostly custom/moddified/nonstock cars are and will continue to be targeted for these "little" offenses....bulb color, lights tinted, etc. Again people, accept the outcome for the choices you make. Any or all the mods you make could easily result in a traffic stop. I have an '02 LS and i dont like the orange bumper lights, but i also understand that changing it COULD result in a traffic stop so i have decided not to do that modification. Makes sense doesnt it. Also keep in mind, 66 in a 65 is illegal. There is no amount that is legally allowed to be "over". Usually a few is given due to a speedo being alittle off or whatever, but dont ever count on even 1 mph.

One thing I learned in traffic school. They can site you for just about anything. CHP has been notorious, since I started driving over 30 years ago, for siting forticky-tack stuff. I got pulled over near Eureka for 65 in a 55, illegal passing (I didn't complete the pass prior to the broken yellow line turning solid) and front window tint. He didn't notice I don't have a front plate. I got warned for the speed and pass, and a fix-it ticket for the tint. Wierd.......

I remember when Tricky Dick had the DOT lower the speed limit to 55. The CHP was infamous for handing out tickets for 56 and 57 mph!

Exactly. I'm not saying its a cool thing to do, but they can. There is an area by me that cops nail all the time. The other day a plain clothes cop is sitting in the back of a plain pickup on the side of the road, in his hand a laser. He was just sitting there clocking people and radio to the 8-10 cops waiting just around the corner, just waving people off to the side ticket book in hand. Again, its not the coolest thing to do and some even see it as a waste of time for them, but if your gonna do anything over the limit then just smile when it happens. They just passed a new law in regards to seat belts, it is now PC for a traffic stop. So, what that tells me is that window tint will be used more as a reason to "not see" if your wearing your belt. Just a thought.
