I am looking to replace my faithful 1989 Grand Marquis daily driver. It's just hitting 100,000mi. Had it for 15 yrs or so. I still like/need big cars and have been a hot rodder all my life. The car I have been looking at so far has been the Crown Victoria "Sport". Having trouble find one with the equipment I want so I am starting to look at Lincoln LS's. V8 only. I will be buying an '03 or later, preferably later - '05 '06. Can someone please direct me to a site or explain to me ALL of the differences between years and options? I notice several different wheels on the cars usually indicating an option package choice. Some have the split spokes, some have 5 spokes, some have the 8 spokes. Why are there so few of the cars equpped with the rear deck lid spoilers? Do they all have the "Premium sound system" unless equipped with THX deal?
What else do I need to know?
Thanks, Frank.

Well if you're looking for big, I think you'll be disappointed with the LS. It looks big enough on the outside, but it's really not. That's one of the few things I really dislike about mine. That and the creaky plastic center console.

As far as the packages go, its easier to tell by the bumpers. Chrome trim on the bumpers means its either the non-sport "luxury" model or a premium package model. The premium package usually has the larger 17" wheels.

No chrome on the bumpers denotes a sport model, and the difference is mainly in the suspension and interior trim as far as I know.

Thanks for the fast reply sts, That what I was afraid of. I'm not a big guy but I don't like the majority of todays cars. Front wheel drive noise, road noise. cramped cabins, maybe I'd better sit in one. Do the LS's have Ltd slip diff's?
Thanks again, Frank.

Not factory, but they've managed to fit an 8.8 Limited slip carrier with the stock LS gears into the stock LS rear end here:

See the size of a car is a problem for me, Im only 6'1", but I wear a 36" inseam. Not many people can ride in the back seat behind me. I have the drivers seat back as far as it goes, and its still too close to the pedals. I can't get stretched out good on road trips like I could in my Cadillac. But I bought it because it had exactly what I was looking for in a car. Style, power, handling, and rear wheel drive.

there's a member on here that has a LSD in his car and was selling them for a while IIRC

Have ya looked into a Merc. Marauder? I loved that car back when I had it the short period of time, traded LS for it, than the dealer tried to switch deals on me twice so I took it back and got my LS back and looked else where. Its big, as you know, has great power and looks great imo.

Be prepared for almost no performance mods and spending a lot of money replacing parts. That is the two biggest problems I see with the LS.

It's sweet looking, riding, and driving, but does have the above down sides to deal with. If that isn't a problem for you then I'd say go for it.

And, as they said above, it isn't a big car inside.

Thanks a lot all....... Food for thought. Looks like a great car. Maruaders are definately in the running as well.
Frank.
