I just got a 2001 Lincoln LS V8 about 3 weeks ago, and I'm about to buy some new rims for it. The rims I'm pretty set on are 20x8.5 and planned on running 245/35/20 all the way around. I was going to order them from carid.com so they custom build the rims to fit my car. So clearly 5x108 bolt pattern but I can request a particular offset. What offset should I get, so the wheels fit as flush as possible, without ANY rubbing. And not going to lower it at all. Really appreciate your guys help!

Well first off welcome and second on todays agenda, use the search tool this topic is cover about 5 times a week for some reason, you'll find the tool near the top right of the threads.
Try to use this as often as possible to avoid answers you don't feel like hearing, such as, those are to big for a car and look like something i would put on a truck i was going to leave at the scrap yard

Yeah I did search and know what you mean, but so many people are running so many different offsets, with different circumstances. I don't want to roll the fenders or use spacers or any of that garbage. I just want to get the right rim, the first time and have them work like they should.

Nope, Im definitely not going to lower it at all. Plan on keeping it stock height, but if I understand offset correctly, the higher the offset, the more flush the rim sits inside the wheel well correct? So at what point, is the offset too high and it begins to rub on the inside of the wheel well or do I not grasp the concept of offset correctly?

Even without lowering, I'd recommend an offset of +42mm or higher. Your factory wheels have an offset of +60mm. An 8.5" wheel is going to stick out an inch more than your factory wheels (depending on offset).
If you never going to lower your LS, then your risk is a lot less. However, you'd be surprised at how fast the bug has bit in pulling the trigger on lowering your baby - a lot of us can speak for experience. If it were me, I'd rather get a wheel that gives me the option to do so in the future - even if I don't want to do it now.
You never know what tomorrow will bring inside your mind.

There are many on-line offset calculators. Find one and put in the different numbers and see what suits you.
Well I don't like when the rims stick out of the wheel well, so I'm trying to keep them as flush as possible, so if I got a 45+ offset on those 20x8.5, would that give me the flush look I'm looking for and still not rub? Or would I need a higher offset than that to keep them as flush to the wheel well as possible.
I've been playing with the calculators but I dont know how much room I have on the inside of the wheel well, till they start rubbing, because I want the highest offset I can get without rubbing, because I want the flush look. So I guess really my true question is, what's the highest offset I can get without having my tires rubbing on the inside of the wheel well or rubbing anywhere for that matter.

A wheel that is 8.0 - 8.5" wide with +45mm offset should set well within the LS' wheel wells. The wheels that can be questionable are normally around 38 - 40 mm offset. 42mm can be close, but you can ask some of the LVC'ers that are running them about where the wheel sits. Anything less than 38mm will may run the risk of sticking out a little bit.
Pektel has 19" 8.0 wheels with +42mm offset. Looking at pics of his car (he never wants to post them
), they look like they're close to the fender lips, but still appear to be behind them.
There are several LVC'ers that have wheels with a +38mm offset, and share that they do not rub. I don't know if that is in normal driving conditions or not.
What do you mean by "the flush look?" If you are wanting the surface of the wheel to be as close to the fender/body of the car, then you would actually be wanting a lower offset. The higher the offset, the more recessed into the wheel well it will be (again, depending on the total width of the wheel).

The lowest one should go to assure no rubbing in everyday driving would be 40..38 can be pulled off but you may rub with a loaded car..

Yeah by flush I mean, I dont want the rim sticking out at all. And I'm set on the rims I posted above and they are 20x.8.5.

Yeah the "search police" part was kinda weird, but I appreciate the help tru-blu, I'm pretty sure I'm on the same page now and grasp it all. So I'll go with 20x8.5 with a 45+ offset and it will sit in the wheel well like I'm wanting it too.
Find and use an offset calculator. That takes wheel width and offset into consideration.
Sitting flush with the fender lip WILL cause more than just rubbing; you will tear the fender to shreds!

LS4ME is right, there are more issues that can happen besides rubbing/shredding your tires.
The link that FAST provided earlier is a good one because it will allow you to see how the wheel/tire combination you want compares to what you already have on the car. You can also save it to do additional comparisons. It will show all the info you'll probably need in determining if a wheel/tire combo will work for you.

The best one I have found so far.. Tells you how far it will stick out further then your current setup.. Then take a tape measurement to see if its good..

They are very close to the fender lip, but do not interfere. But I was also careful with my tire selection as well. The rears have probably 1/8" clearance when the tire is inside the fender well. I can't fit my finger between the tire and fender well. I went with a slightly lower profile tire in the front to eliminate a slight rubbing issue when wheels were turned and going over a bump (same turn every morning coming into the parking lot at my work).

I'm running 20's, 7.5 inches wide, +40 offset. 225/35/20 tires right now, but have room for 245/35 and will be changing them out. I think this is how the OP is wanting them to sit, huh?
