IAC, how much does brand matter?

So I need a new IAC. This morning when fixing the brake booster issue I could hear the IAC thunking open and closed and I know that means its dying. Its a 2 year old Autozone piece and I am going to swap it out with another brand. I know some parts are OM only on our cars but is an Oreilly or Pep Boys one better then an Autozone piece? Is the OEM much better then any parts store version? Its easy and cheap enough to do but I hate doing things over and over and other then my steering rack I am pretty sure its the last Autozone part on the car as all the other AZ parts have failed.

Laser, I hate to say it but I got mine from AZ and yet to have any problems with it. Putting it on mine is 20 times harder than it will be for you though. Seems to be an upgraded part compared to the original one I took off.
 
While we're on the subject of IACs, there is a tech article on a Mustang forum that recommends cleaning the IAC with throttle body cleaner. http://www.moddedmustangs.com/cleaning-your-iac.htmlThey claim it works most of the time, and eliminates the need to replace it. You do have to remove the IAC to clean it.

Anyone ever try this?

It's been tried but for the price, it's worth it to buy new and be done with it. Yes, cleaning usually works for a while but all of the buildup isn't being cleaned out and it also has a spring inside. It's very much carbon corroded from top to bottom. Best to just get a new one if you have around $45 to $50 to spend. Gasket comes with it. Peace of mind knowing you have a new one on. Gen 1, I would never clean and have the worry of maybe having to replace again. Gen 2, maybe since it's so easy of a swap but still prefer to go with new.

I just hate AZ crap and wanted an alternative. I will prolly order from Rock auto, thanks for the link. :)
 
So which one is the best bet? Just spend the little extra and get OEM or is one of the others a little better? These are all from Rock Auto.

Give it a shot laser, it has a lifetime warranty and it's so easy of a change, if you aren't happy with it, get the different one and then take that one back for your money. If the price is around the same then go with what you think is better I suppose. It may have been around $60, hell I can't remember.
 
Yeah Frog, if I get a Motorcraft it will be from Max cause he always has given me the best service. I just was curious if it made a difference between Motorcraft or Borg Warner oe Delphi.
 
If I could have gotten the Motorcraft for that price, I would have but I needed one right then and it seems like mine was $50+ with tax but not sure of the brand. The AC158 I think is the one. If you're not in a hurry, do go with OEM. I learned that with the alternator issue I'm dealing with right now. Motorcraft is on the way though and not rebuilt.

sadly its the cylinder on the right side of the throttle body, pass side, here it is looking through the dash, its damn near touching the firewall

for the small price difference, id go motorcraft
 
I bought a Motorcraft from the dealer, and it was a different one than the stock one that I removed. It still works fine about a year later.

Luckily, I had to replace the trans, so I changed it very easily then (gen 1).:D

I'll save you some trouble if you need to replace your IAC - spend the money up front on the Ford brand, rather than taking the risk of having to do the job again.

I think changing the IAC and TPS on my Gen1 took about 5 hours to complete.

Horrible, horrible job.
 
The Autozone IAC should have a 2 year warranty, go have them see if it's still under warranty... If not, I've got a phone number that has one under warranty :shifty:
 
Thanks, thats a very nice offer but I am getting rid of every last AZ part on the car. I only have the steering rack, IAC, one ball joint, one outer tie rod and a fuel filter to swap and thats it for AZ. This car will NEVER see another AZ piece on it again. Buying the IAC, filter and rack tomorrow and the rest next paycheck. :D

Laser, I found this for your rack. Mine also came off a 93 model and made a
world of difference. The price is cheap too and he has 2 left.

Thats local pickup only and used. For not much more i am buying a refurbished one that used all OEM parts and has a 2 year warrenty. :D
