very old thread. very old issue ive been dealing with for years. I don't usually drive the car daily so it hasn't been too annoying. but I thought to update this thread. for me the idle bouncing ended up being mostly fixed by a few different things. a dirty MAF and a dirty throttle body. I say mostly fixed since it still happens sometimes. I cleaned the MAF twice and the throttle body twice (i dont think it was that dirty but my mechanic said it was) and each time I cleaned them the idle bounce seemed to improve. my mechanic also commented the MAF I had was a cheap brand. so im banking on if I replace the MAF with a better quality one the issue will be totally resolved.
My mechanic also let me use his smoke machine to put smoke thru the vacuum/air system. pretty cool and old thing. I didnt have any leaks except I found smoke coming out the air intake tube at the throttle body -after the MAF and before the throttle body-. tightening up that worm gear clamp stopped the smoke. i was sure this would solve the idle bounce but it didn't..
