Hey what up long time no post...any way I got a new door handle since while I was away and my car was parked some one tried to break in soo I need to install a new handle...I got the handle for the passenger side door and I saw a little tech article for it on lincoln online but the article kinda sucks anyone care to tell me how to install it maybe in just a few steps I can figure it out...like do I need to take the inside apart?

another note...my sun roof isn't opening all the way how do I fix this?

You will have to take the door panel off.

On the gen 2 there is a screw behind the light, not the lens, but the bulb holder. You gently pry the lens off and then gently pry the bulb holder out to reveal the hidden screw. You have to take the inner trim panel around the inner door handle off. There should be a total of 3? screws and then you just lift straight up on the door panel, and it should slide up and be able to be pulled off.

The you take the two inner bolts that hold the handle off and the real fun starts. I don't have any real tips for getting the linkages off, just lots of fandangling....

I bet Jamie has this down to a science and has all the good tips.
 
Cool..maybe ill make a article on it once I'm done since it seems to be such a common problem.
 
and the sun roof motor, it may have a dead spot on the acutal motor.
 
I am going to be doing the door handles in the near future (both sides) since someone broke the passenger side on mine, and the driver side has never been right-I just got my new ones in (thanks Max) and will have to paint them first, but if anyone out there has any tricks/tips, it'll be appreciated-gen 1, could be worse, like an IAC.
 
Not TOO bad

I just finished painting my new drivers side handle and will be installing it on thursday I will let you know how it goes..
 
If you have a Gen II the Moonroof issue maybe the three bolts holding the motor in have come loose and the unit binds when it retracts. If this goes too long the motor gets out of time and it will stop all together and or the moonroof may get stuck in an awkward position.

Remove the cover panel and check the three bolts. If you are lucky they are loose and just remove one at a time a use a thread locker like Loctite 222MS or 425 to keep the bolts from backing out again.

I got lucky, my 94 the guy put conti handles on it....so not only are they fixed, but chrome too :)
 
lol, it kinda comes with the territory though. its kinda like when i wear my work uniform outside of work, im like "the wondering mechanic" i agree people often abuse free advice and it can get old quick

lol i thought i was on eddies thread lol
 
i guess im just finally getting sick of the whole mark VIII deal. i still love them, and still own one, but i'm just tired of being used for everything i know about them, i'm in a bad bad mood so no one judge me on what i am saying, i am kind of venting, see i used to have all my old friends want me to fix things for them and use the lift at my work for them to play around and then when i needed something i was invisible, i almost feel that way about this mark VIII crap now, know what i mean?

Hope this helps I made alot of mistakes that hopefully will help. After you follow the other guys advise and remove the door panel there is only three bolts holding it on. Twoo for the handle and one for the key pad. Take all three off and then you will have to take off lock rod and the rod to the latch. the latch rod comes of easy if yo open the yellow and white clip that holds it. after both rods are off you can pull the whole door handle out with electric lock still in handle. change the lock and outside gasket to new housing and then reinstall it but make sure the handle latch rod is on before you reinstall it. Its tight to put it back in that way but the problem I found is if you dont you wont have enough room to put rod on once installed. had to do it twice to figure that trick out. all in all with my mistakes it was done and back toghter in one hour. hope this helps have a great NEW YEAR..
 
Thanks for the info....I unfortunately didn't have as easy a time. It took me about 3 hours. First, the door handle wasn't exactly the same so when I went to change the guts of the other handle out the clip that locks the key mechanism didn't lock in properly so I used some mighty putty(haha) Then I couldn't fit my fat hands into the door hole to reach the rod for the hinge or the rod for the lock so after a lot of cussing I finally got it all put together. It was so difficult and frustrating I wanted to just rip the whole door apart, but I got it done. It works like a charm..Now when my girl goes to get in my car I don't have to open the door for her..ahhh..what a relief.

Hey jamie take a load off pal..if you do get tired of marks though just let me take yours off your hands. :D I'd be happy to.
