Today I installed my performance chip from Blue Oval Chip for my 1993 Mark Viii. Initially I was having a hard time trying to make the chip work with the stock computer. When I start the engine, it would just sputter badly. So after multiple cleaning to the contacts, it finally ran smooth.

After I installed everything, I took the car out for a test drive. THIS CAR ROCKS!The shifts are crisp and sharp, I bark the tires on the 1-2 shift, and the lag between gears are gone. Its always in the right gear at the right time. It seems like I have more low end torque from a dead stop and it revs faster too. Top end power has also increased. Cant wait to go to the track this weekend! Bottom line, I'm very satisfied with the chip.

What else is done to the car if anything? I eventually want to order a chip from blue oval chips..what did you specify when you ordered yours?

Thanks very much for this information, jtmforever! I've heard that Lonnie's chip really helps to cure the luxo shifts. Now I know I'm going to do the same. Most appreciated. :D

If you are done modding your car then sure chip it. If you plan on doing more. get an SCT hand held and have lonnie make the tunes for ya that way. they are much easier to install and remove then a chip. the price is probably less. you are looking at 350 + 125 each addtional tune. you can snag the xcals 2 on ebay for the low. plus you get the benefits of being able to use it to data log as well as you always have a kick ass code reader. either way. tunes from blue oval do work and work well.

My mods includes open cone air filter, straight pipe from the cats with x-pipe and no mufflers, and fresh tune up. I can tell that this chip really increased my horsepower and torque.

that works great for 96-98 Trippen. otherwise, a chip is about your only option.

and i'm glad you like it. i have been running a Blue Oval chip for about a year. i almost can't stand to drive factory tuned Marks anymore! the better shift schedule is my favorite part.
Lonnie is good. he knows the Mark as he has a fast first gen that he converted to OBD II for better tuning.

I just told lonnie to engage OD at 60 mph, make the shift points at 6500rpm, firm the transmissions shifts, and increase the timing and just basically make the car faster.

What ecu do you have in your 93? W3Z2 or W3Z3? I put in a 93 W3Z2 in my 95, wondering if I should switch back to the DZA1 when it comes time to order a chip..some people say to use your factory ecu with whatever chip you get programmed.

man i don't think it matters..

my chip works on both my W3Z3 and my W3Z2.

but probably chip the DZA1 cuz the W3Z2 has more resale value.

I also noticed that my fan stays on longer. is it programmed for a lower thermostat. Can I install the 160 thermostat.

Chip/ Tune helps. I have a SCT tune on mine but otherwise it's stock (170K). Raced it against a 98 LSC which is bone stock (79K) from 10 - 100 MPH and had it by my rear bumper at the end. Will have to detune my car see if it gives the same results or if it loses.

Video (you can see how gears help the LSC)

Yeah the 3.27 over the 3.08s are a big out of the hole difference but not by much. When I put 4.10s in my red one OMG with a 3000 stall hello now that ripped hard 60' times I broke a 1.98 60' just stall and gear on sticky street tire. Good comparison though thanks.

So, who all do you recommend for chips/handhelds then? I believe I have all of the tuners for us listed, but are there anymore? Also, do you guys think the Mustang guys over at American Muscle, would tune for our cars?

Lonnie (BOC)
Torrie (Past Parts Network)
John ( Temple Performance)
Don (Lasota Racing)
Dennis (Reinhart Automotive)

Lonnie is the only one who actually tunes a mark for the best performance all the other shops supposedly just put an off the shelf mustang tune on it.

If that statement is true then why does Don at Losota racing ask you to send him some data logging stuff so he can do your tune? I know for my tune i went with Lonnie. its a nice deal. i wish i would of asked for a more gas friendly tune tho. im sure its probably just my car but with the tune installed i get about 14.6 mpg around town and 18 on the highway
