I had Auto Zone pull the codes on my 05 LS V8 and I have misfire on cylinder 3(p0303) and fault on ignition coil G(p0357). Are both codes for the same cylinder or do I have 2 bad coils at once? I ordered a set of new coils yesterday and they'll be here this week. I just want to make sure I get everything I need before this weekend. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well you know coil 3 def has an issue but I'm thinking P0357 for coil G would mean coil 7. I could be wring or just another bad coil. I would change coil 3 and see if the codes go away, if you still have the P0357 then I would change coil 7. Also when removing the coils check if there is oil on them, if there is then you have a bad vavle cover gasket as I just went through that.

The last number in the code denotes the cylinder.

scratch that... found a better source...
P0357 Ignition Coil Primary G / Secondary Circuit Malfunction
A circuit malfunction usually means bad wiring or something along those lines.

Switch coil 7 with coil 6, clear the codes and see if it comes back.

Thanks. I'll try switching 6 and 7. I hadn't thought of that. Is the VCG leak common on 05's too? I thought it was the gen 1's.

This a general announcement for anyone who has had coil pack troubles with their 03-05 Lincoln LS. There was a bulliten sent out by for to it's deallerships cocrning the coil pack issue with the LS and Thunderbird w/ the 3.9L V8. It is customer satisfaction program #07m07. I have a pdf of that report which specifies that your Ford dealershipp is to replace any faulty coils and spark plug on the affected cylinder for 10yrs, 100,000 miles.
