i've read on a few various sites mainly rumor nothing documented that i have seen of plans for a new ls??? is this true? does anyone know of any official sites or documentation stating this? or is it just all this mkz hype?

The MKS is the replacement for the LS. IIRC, it's due in 2007 as a 2008 MY car. It is currently supposed to have a 315hp version of the Ford/Volvo/Yamaha V8 that's in the the Volvo XC90, as well as AWD. There's more info about it available on Lincoln's Web site (and there used to be a sticky topic about it at the top of this forum; you can use the Search to find it).

The Zephyr/MKZ, even with the addition of the Duratec 35 and AWD this fall, is not, nor is it intended to be, a replacement for the LS. The LS is a luxury sport sedan; the Zephyr/MKZ is an entry-level luxury sedan.

The MKS is not the replacement for the LS. Right now, there is no replacement. The MKS is the Zephyr with a new name. The MKZ is a crossover, probably taking the place of the Aviator.

Oh my lord, the MKZ looks like a pile of S***...I hope it does not replace the Aviater...I love the aviater and Navigator, if Lincoln keeps it's ugly, overweight, under-powered, bad gas mileage role, they aren't going to be doing so well here in the future...Just my point.

Are you joking?

I wish I were. Should Lincoln not find a suitable replacement for the LS, my '06 will be my last Lincoln. AWD (especially with a transverse engine) holds no appeal to me at all.

I thought the mks was an all new platform. is it really the zephyr (fusion) platform?

Yes, and I agree, my last lincoln would be my LS if this crap continues. I do not like the Zypher, MKS, MKZ, or the New Navigator. That have the weirdest looking designs, and not to mention that kitchen untensil on the front end of the navi. Make sure to bring a block of parmesan to shred on the grille!

I re-thought my opinion about the navigator when I remembered it's new design. It's not ugly like the others, but I dont think I would drive it. The Aviator is the only thing that appeals to me, it would be a shame to replace the aviator. I also here that a bigger version Zypher (they may call it the Continental) will take the Town Car's place. Lincoln is not looking good you guys. WE MUST DO SOMETHING!!!

Thou art confused by the lame-@$$ Lincoln names.
MKZ = Zephyr.
MKX = Lincoln's veriosn of the Ford Edge (Crossover).
MKS = Lincoln's D3 LS replacement (such as it is).

It may not be a true replacement for the LS, but it's taking the LS's slot in the lineup. It (and the MKX) were introduced at NAIAS this year.

The MkX is the new crossover replacing the Aviator and the MkZ is the Zephyr. The MkS while not built on a platform made for the luxury sport market like the LS will be Lincoln's new luxury sports car and is actually based on the Volvo XC90 SUV platform. A poll on Lincolns page hints that a forced induction performance model may come out.

Here's Lincoln's site for the MkS and MkX

And here's an article from cars.com that mention the MkS's platform

God the MKX has to be one of the UGLIEST vehicles...I like the MKS though.

cars article - 3,000 ft/lbs of TQ, I'll be trading in my 350 diesel for that TQ.:D

It's the D3 platform, which originated under the Volvo S80. It's actually adapted from the Volvo platform for the FLM variants (including the Five Hundred and Freestyle). I don't know if the XC90 rides on that platform or not, though.

Well then I sit corrected. But isn't the MKS the replacement for the Town Car? Lincoln has said recently their main competetor is Buick, not Cadillac.

the new MkS reminds me of the new lexus gs sieries. I know thats a sin to lincoln owners seeing hte lexus, but thats what comes to mind

There's (supposedly) going to be a stretched version of the D3 that'll replace the Town Car, but, last I heard, the MKS and the Town Car are going to co-exist for awhile.

And I've heard lots of people say that Lincoln is competing with Buick rather than Cadillac, but I've never heard Lincoln say it. All I've heard Lincoln say is that they're not going to follow Cadillac over the cliff, which is a far cry from saying that they're choosing to compete with Buick...

From what I've read the TC will bee around for another year or two and then it will be replaced by some new top of the line car bigger then the MkS I dont know what the platform will be though.

Also as far as all that lincoln vs. buick stuff I think that was true wether lincoln liked it or not before this year but with the MkS and MkZ I think there starting to be a real contender agine. I have allready seen several Zephers on the road and I have heard a lot of people talking about about the MkS.

Thinking of an LS (worried about traction in snow/ice)

We were in the market for an '06 LS, but since we live in Wisconsin people have warned us that we may run into problems in the winter since the car is rear wheel drive. We are from the South, so we have only owned 4WD SUV's since we moved here, but would love to upgrade to this beautiful sedan. Could we get some tips from cold weather owners who have dealt with this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The LS is very well balanced so get a good set of snow tires and you should be fine.

Yup. If you can't get going in an LS, you probably shouldn't be driving in those conditions. AWD and 4WD only help you get going; they very little with stopping or turning.

I live in upstate New york and we get bombed with snow every year. I got my ls in November, just in time for winter. I traded in a grand cherokee. Everybody said what are you nuts, but believe it or not i had no problem getting around this winter. The advance trac is the best. They are actually starting to put them in their explorers because it's such a great system. Get the Ls and just let the advance trac work and you will get through anything.
