Is this to much $$$ to give dealer to fix

... and I'll say it again, I wouldn't stop at AAMCO to change my tire.

hahaa, no perhaps "you" wouldn't but he did and is getting them to change his tire!

ROFL

Give ya'll an interesting transmission story as it seems to be one of the most common areas for mechanics to scam customers. Years ago when i bought a Dodge Intreped (back when cars had tranny dipsticks) i checked the level and was slightly low. Went to the auto parts store and bought what was told to me was the correct fluid type. Topped it off and thought all was good.

After driving not very long it was shifting wierd and the tranny idiot light came on so i took it to a dodge dealer to get it checked out. Well apparently back in those days MOPAR had a proprietary tranny fliud that could ONLY be obtained at actual Dodge delaerships which of course was not the type i used. The service advisor came back and told me i need a whole new tranny rebuild. Couple Grand or so. I knew that wasnt necessary and now at that time i had found out that i put the wrong type of fluid in. We argued back and forth and i finally told him to just do a tranny flush and fill and thats all i wanted. He warned me and threatened me that i was wasting my money doing that. Got the tranny serviced/flush and fill and went on my way.

That Intrepid lasted another 100k plus miles and never had another tranny isssue. Long story short, 99% of mechanics are out to steal your money and its important to find the 1% who will do an honest job, give you honest andvice and just do the repairs needed.

Hey everyone heres an update. Bought the new solenoid off the oemmegastore website for $270 went to the small shop and Paid $208 for puttin in the new solenoid and and a trans service (changin the filter and what all that jazz). $478 Later, my car is running GREAT again. No hard shifts from 3-4th gear, no hesitation then jerk when puttin car into reverse. Thanks for all the input everyone. The search box is a God send when im trying to diagnose whats wrong with my LS. 100% of the time i post asking questions or search for answers on here, I other members have found the solution.THanks AGAIN!

Glad you got it straightened out! Did you get a 1-yr 12K mile warranty or something like that?

I suppose that it's possible there is a good AAMCO out there somewhere, but I've never heard of it.

LOL at some of these AAMCO stories in here.....as a veteran employee of one, many many moons ago when I wasnt sure what was important in life, in other words, fresh out of high school, I spent a year and a half at one.

All in all, the owners were pretty straight shooters, the shadiest thing they did was the aforemention "junkyard swaps", but those were only done on manuals. Autos were always gone through, even if one had to come from a yard.

To the OP, glad you got it all worked out, and saved what appears to be some serious coin too. What is that "oemmegastore" you reference? I just looked it up and got an oepartsmegastore.com result, but the page doesn't load?

When I had to replace the solenoid block in my LS a year or 2 ago, I used 800700tran. Parts were pretty cheap, and the shop I use charged me $200 in labor. The Solenoid block was around $150, and under $100 for the valve body. I had it back up and running for under $500.
